Breastfeeding reference on 'That 70's Show' (rerun).

Yay!

(Sad that we are watching a 70's Show marathon on Thanksgiving night, but it was a hectic day with thirty+ relatives and we needed to zone out a bit. )

Anyway, Kelso was talking to the mom of the girl he got pregnant and saying the things that they had discussed in planning for the baby. He said, "we talked about that she is going to breastfeed..." What I liked was that in the context of the scene, it was said as if it was totally the default, normal thing to do.

That's great!

The bf'ing rates in the 70's were sooooo low, it's nice that they slipped bf'ing in there.

When my mom had her first at age 19, in 1973, they just handed her a bottle. She didn't even realize that bf'ing was a viable option. She was told that bottlefeeding was better for the baby, so she thought she would somehow be harming her baby (or simply not providing the *best*) by bf'ing. So sad.

Luckily she knew better by the time she had her second two years later.

Hi, We're watching That 70's Show marathon too. I love this show!
In subsequent episodes they show kelso and the gange with the baby and they talk about the baby's bottles being full of EBM. I love how they act like it's totally natural and expected that the baby will be breastfed. I also really like the cloth diapers they talked about in one episode where kelso and what's her name take a parenting class taught by Kitty.

They recently replayed an episode where Kelso has a bottle of EBM for the baby. Fez was in awe of the powers of breasts.

I love that show anyway. I had most of those clothes.

Actually, Shaunam, it depends on which part of the 70's you had your baby or babies in. In 1970, the bf rate was 21%, which is even more dismal when you consider that that is the percentage who got fed any breastmilk AT ALL. By 1979, when I had my first, the percentage had more than doubled to 52%. So it depends on what part of the 70's you had your kids.

Kelso is hot

Wait a minute. Want to be sure Kelso is Aston K, correct?

Again, he is HOT.

Don't ya love it? Another tv moment that caught me was the whole episode in Charmed where Piper was told to leave a restaurant for bf'ing at the table. THAT was a great episode!

Ya know, there seems to be a little lactivism on That 70s show. I was watching reruns the other day and they made another (albeit offhanded) reference to it.

All of the guys were sitting in a beer warehouse, drinking beer out of kegs, in "the circle". Kelso made a comment about how he then knew why babies liked getting theirs from the tap so much
