How many layers are you wearing?

In an effort to keep heating cost down I have broken new ground in clothes layering . In adition to the regular long nightgown and bathrobe I have added sweatpants underneath and a big sweater on top of it all.

I am a walking fashion nightmare but I am happy to say that for the first time in weeks I feel toasty! I think my next step will be my silk thermals under it all.

Anyone else adding an extra layer, and lowering the heat this winter?

I bought some cheapo longjohns to wear if it's really cold outside (for me that means under 45 degrees!).

But dh and I are engaged in a silent thermostat war. He walks by and turns it to 69, then I turn it back to 65. So it's hard to pile on tons of clothing if it just means the heat's going to come back on again in 3 seconds.

Standard here is long underwear on top and bottom, pants (preferably fleecey or flannel-lined, long-sleeved shirt, and a sweater/ sweatshirt/ fleece pullover. Wearing a hat makes a big difference, but I don't because they just annoy me too much.

I just have to pop in to say....threads like this remind me why I'll never move back to the midwest! I HATE being cold and don't like wearing layers.

Well, I'm wearing three layers, and I have a blanket on. It's FREEZING in here. I had to leave the heat on all morning, though, because the cable guy was coming to replace our box. So I was warm for a couple hours anyway.

I am so thankful we heat with wood and dont have to dress in layers.

I wear lots of layers when I go out, but in the house house its a short sleeve shirt.

yep, we're adding layers and lowering the thermostat this winter. we keep in on 65 during the day and drop it to 61 at night.

i typically end up in a snug fitting tank top (unless i'm wearing a bra), a long sleeved tshirt, a sweatshirt, and DH's fleece jacket. I haven't added layers to the bottom yet. I wear jeans, cords, sweatpants, or my yummy velvet pants. Then I throw on thick socks. If I'm working around the house I add my "house shoes."

Sometimes I add a hat to the mix

Even though we keep the thermostat so low, I usually wake up in just my tshirt and bottoms at night. Everything else gets stripped off around midnight/1am.

My dh family has a big pj fetish as xmas gifts. every year we get a pair of pjs. I put them on with a pair of snowboard socks that go to the knees around 5pm. In the years past I have just kept the heat up, but this year EVERYONE is wairing layers to bed and around the house with the energy cost up.

27 outside right now, 65 inside (we turn it down to 60 at night) and I'm just in one layer (babe has a t-shirt under his regular clothes). At night, we've had single digits (-30 windchills) and I still just wear the one layer, a long sleeved nightie.

I add many, many blankets. My second dd isn't a cuddle bug, so she slept next to us and now she is upstairs with her sis in a crib, so we were able to add blankets upon blankets to our bed. both dd's are little heaters and do not need much

I know what you mean. We are turning the heat down to 56 at night. Last night I asked DH if he wanted another blanket. Our boys are still co-sleeping most nights, DH said no, his two little heaters were working great and he was all set.

I have also discovered a love of silk thermals. I only have one pair but I'm planning to get more. I have started to wear them every day. Makes a big difference in how warm I feel.

I had an interesting conversation with a friend who had spent lots of time in other countries, specifically how many cultures where it dose get cold, dont have the central heat, that's considered the norm in our culture.

It made me more aware of how I could try to adjust to the coming cold temps without cranking up the heat. And the fact that our heating costs are figuring to double had some impact as well.

T-shirt and sweatpants. bare feet.

This is an upgrade from the T-shirt and boxers I usually wear to bum around the house. It's 60 outside right now, 72 inside w/o the heater running at all.

I love Arizona this time of year.

One of my classmates just told me about a corn heater . His family just got one and it keeps a 3-story house at 82 degrees. They get corn for about $1 a bushel.

I'm wearing underclothes, then a t-shirt, sweat pants, sweat shirt, 2 pair of socks, a pair of slippers, and keep taking my stocking cap on and off. i have the temp set at 62 with and electric space heater running also. so it's prolly around 68 in here, the kids are in bed with cotten snug jamies, fleece over jamies, and about 4 blankets i think and they are sleeping together tonight since it's the weekend... watching a move in abigails room.

I'm pregnant which everone tells me should be keeping me warm. But, recently I've been wearing two pairs of pants, ususally one of them sweatpants and at least three tops, two pairs of sox and DH slippers (mine don't go on over socks) plus a bathrobe and a headband ear cover thingy.... and that's only when it's warm.... Oh, yeah.... I'm stylin'!!

We're heating with wood, but with a 100+ year old house with no insulation and original windows (25 of them no less) it get's pretty freakin' cold!! Especially when it was negative 5 and below a couple days ago. I woke up at 3am, 4 feet from the fire and could still see my breath as I huddled under 3 blankets and had a puppy with me as an additional heater.

We've had to put a heater in the bathroom and under the kitchen sink and still had both sets of pipes freeze (not to mention going to the bathroom on an icecube of a toilet seat!!)

BRRRRRR!!!

just 1 layer right now, but I'm FREEZING. We keep it at 63-65 day and night, and I wear 2-3 layers during the day and one at night with a down comforter. The baby has a small electric space heater in the far corner of his room set at 70 since his room is farthest from the furnace, and my 4 year old sleeps in longjohns under a heavy fleece footed sleeper. We're toasty. And I drink LOTS of tea during the day.

It's sleeting and snowing here...27 degrees outside. It's about 60 degrees inside (heat set a bit below that at 58) and I have on a thermal top, two sweatshirts , lined track pants, and two pairs of socks. Baby has on a tee, tights, socks, cotton pjs with a blanket sleeper over that....his hands and face are too cold otherwise...I know that sounds like a lot, but it's what keeps him cozy.

DS and I are each wearing a pair of pants, a long sleeved t-shirt, a sweater and warm socks. That's it. Our thermostat is usually right around 70 degrees- whenever I try to turn it down DH throws a fit and turns it right back up to even higher than it was before he starting messing with it... :

I'm one of those people who are almost always hot! I lower the thermostat AND not overdress so I can be comfy!

Right now I'm wearing cotton knee socks, bike shorts, a long sleeved t-shirt, and a calf-length jumper. (plus panties and a bra of course.) At night I usualy wear a sleeveless nightgown with a matching long-sleeved robe (both thin cotton) and in bed I ditch the robe and snuggle under the blankets.
