1st time making bread- yeast won't froth?

Hi, I am making bread for the first time and the yeast will not froth?? I am using a thermometer and getting the water to 110 degrees? Do I stir the yeast in or let it sit? I tried both ways and neither worked. I bought the yeast at whole foods and it wasn't refridgerated? Any advice for me?

Are you using just a regular dry yeast? Just plain water?
If the water is plain, try adding a little sugar in whatever form you want. Alternatively you can use warm soy milk/cow milk for the liquid. The yeast needs to have a food.
And if the yeast is just sitting on the top, give it a little stir. It can't hurt.
HTH!

Yes, dry yeast and water. Ahh, some sugar! Ok, THANKS!

The sugar is a great suggestion. It is also possible to have dead yeast... that just won't activate and bloom anymore.

Thanks for the help!!
