where can I find a sewing basket?

Thread Starter
I have pregnancy brain so I can't even remember if it's called a sewing basket or sewing box.

Growing up I remember my mom having a large box and the first level had spools for the thread to sit on---and they could all line up neatly. There were several other levels for all your sewing stuff.

I looked today at the Rag Shop, but all they had were tiny things that I could only imagine holding pins and buttons. I googled but really haven't found what I was looking for either---all the shops seem to be UK--which I could order from, but I think that there must be someplace in the US that sells them.

Any ideas?

You could try Joann fabric if there is one near you, or another sewing shop. I have a rack with pegs to hold my bobbins and thread, it works well. I'm still trying to find a good way to organize my notions.
Maybe a tackle box like the fishermen use?

I have a rack for my thread that hangs on the wall and then for my notion type stuff (misc feet that dont go inside my sewing machine) I have one of those little plastic storage containers...(the little ones) that have 3 drawers and it sits next to my sewing machine First level has misc feet, embroidery cards, universal needles etcetc the second level has my needle threader for my serger...other misc feet (my walking foot is always in the second drawer if not in use)..the screwdriver to change my feet...STRETCH needles...then the bottom drawer is where I stuff all of my reciepts. I am going to need a new place for those soon

I would try Joannes though. I know yesterday they had something like that on sale...

Hi, I also think that you should try Joann's. They are a bit too small for what I needed. This is what I did. I just bought one of those very large thread holders that will hold Serger thread and large spools. Then I bought a 4 plastic drawer set and got those desk organizers from Staples and put them in the drawers to organize my needles, markers, seam rippers, tweezers, sewing machine feet, etc. I bought those trays for bobbins and lined them up in the drawer also.

Here in the Midwest you can find them at nearly every flea market and antique shop - not sure what the supply is like in your part of the country, though.

If you're looking for what I think you're looking for, this might be a possibility, too:
