WTH???? We went to buy lights for our tree last night and dh noticed a warning on the box saying that touching the lights exposes you to lead!!! We checked all of the boxs and they all say the same thing!! Has anyone else noticed this? Are there lead free lights?
Thanks,
Amy

I have just been reading on the net and apparently there is also lead found in artificial trees too!! It comes from the PVC coating used in the products. I am so discouraged!! What the heck kind of tree am I going to be able to have? I will buy a real tree but no lights? I know Elle will touch the lights so there is no way I can use the lead laced lights....

On the other hand I am really thankful that I found this out before putting this stuff up on my home!!

yup! yup! and there is lead in some of your computer cords. and lead in other electrical cords. u'd be surprised in how many things lead is there. sorry dont know where u would find lead free lights. maybe home depot. at least they would know where to look.

in case you freak out they have lead testing kits at hardware stores that u can reuse till it shows positive.

I've freaked out for the same reasons, but I'm kindda starting to be comfortable with the idea that there's lead all around us (electrical cords, etc.) and as long as you're not chewing on the lights or tree, it's not going to be an issue.

My DH (who got tired of me freaking out) found a site that said pretty much the same thing and it made me feel a teensy bit better.

But I just googled and found this - which is not so reassuring - along with a lot of other similar articles.

All lights have lead in them from my understanding, I so far haven't found any lead free lights. We use them still, the kids aren't eating off the tree so I have learned to relax about it.

As the mother of a slightly lead poisoned child, I can tell you that almost everything has lead in it, but the amount is miniscule, and won't harm your child. Don't freak out. The health dept can check your child's lead level if you're worried.
