No Sweating = No Breastfeeding? - Page 2

I'm the OP... The hypothyroid connection is interesting... probably why I still can't sweat! I have been hypothyroid probably since puberty, but just diagnosed and treated as of 4 years ago. I don't have any difficulty nursing, but that may well be because I've been on meds for a while now and my levels are under control.

Sadly, my friend's cousin (the one who may have had this issue) has been FFing (her DD is now about 2, I think). But talking about this was tough... my friend said, "you know they (who?) made her feel really guilty about not breastfeeding," and looked at me meaningfully. Then her mom said, "Well, you and your brother were on formula and you're just fine." I felt guilty for BFing successfully... and really what do you say in response to that? I love my friend and her mom--like I'm going to list off the benefits of breastfeeding when it's put in that context? I guess all I can do is encourage her to do research if she ever gets pregnant...

Just another aspect i thought of... since sweating is one of the 3 major ways of eliminating toxins and waste products from the body, a person who doesn't sweat might have more build-up of toxins in her milk supply than a person who sweats "normally".
On a related note, I have always thought that using anti-perspirants must cause toxin retention in the breast area, besides depositing more in the form of aluminium, and now there is news that there could be a link between anti-perspirant use and breast cancer. No surprise to me.

This is interesting to me... actually, I think that I might start a new thread about deodorant...
