Problem with ds's teeth xposted OT - Page 2

Once again, I'll put a plug in for this list:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/veryyoungkidsteeth

The list is more than just discussion - there is tons of links and information in the files area. And we are working on getting more photos into the files.

I would love in the people who posted here - who have mroe experience from a while ago, would post their experiences on the list above. The list is just over a year old, so we are starting to get some people with experience - ie had the work done, and can now report results after a period of time.

But we'd love to have more stories from moms whose kids are now past the baby teeth. if you had baby teeth pulled, how are the new teeth coming in? If you had crowns, how did they last over the long run? Do people who had lots of problems with baby teeth, still have problems with permanent teeth?

I have no financial interest in growing the list above, I just see it helping so many people, and really wish it had existed when I had problems with my kids teeth.

Well the dentist vist was a total waste of time This was a very young dentist not that I have a problem with that at all but he obviously had NO idea about a child my son's age teeth. He looked at them then he sort of touched one with that sharp thingy to see if it was soft said it feels hard to me i guess :

Then he went out to call a different dentist at anouther practice. Comes back in and askes me how well xander goes to sleep at night I said easy, he then ask's does he take a bottle I said no totally bfed. He then goes back out again to confer with anouther dentist there at the practice comes back in and says that really there is no genetic link it could be to just affect his top teeth and not the bottom (I had told him about my older brother having to have the top 4 teeth pulled at 2 because they were doing like ds's).

He then proceeds to tell me that nursing ds to sleep is prolly not a good idea and that is prolly why his teeth r like they r. and I should find a "better" way to get him to sleep. I know that bm does NOT cause cavities it actually prevents them. Even if ds lay there all nite with my nipple in his mouth I doubt that would hurt a thing since a boob dont leak like a bottle nipple does :

So he says that unless they put ds under GA that he really cant do a good exam and how it would be less tramatic to do it that way not 1 word about the dangers of putting a baby under. So I am supposed to call back and schedual this thing. NOT GONNA HAPPEN

Oh and this dentist that was supposed to be a pediatric dentist obviously was NOT.

So I got a few phone numbers off the net for a pediatric dentist who actually knows about a young babies teeth and has at least a bit of knowledge about the benifits of bfing.

Sorry that was so long, can u tell I am a bit PO'ed I mean I drove a hour to this place to learn NOTHING and get BAD advice and it will prolly cost a small fortune. GRRRRRRR

Do you live anywhere near Nashville? I have some very good friends who are dentists there and could probably ask about a great pediatric dentist (although I wouldn't be able to reccommend by first hand knowledge, it might be a good start).

You are right on the breastmilk, as long as you are brushing the solid foods off of his teeth before nursing to sleep. I had to EP, but my son had EBM whenever he needed, day or night, and I didn't worry one bit. I brushed his teeth before his bedtime feeding...

Sorry you're going through this. We've been having similar problems with DS's teeth since he was about a year old. We had to travel quite far to get them fixed (twice now) but the second time seems to be the charm. Good thing as they wanted to go with metal caps if they dont (which I do not want if we can help it). I did not go in with him but the door was open so I could peek in. I was such a mess but DS did way better than I did; I was a wreak for the first dental surgery. Thankfully it didn't take long at all.

He had a check up today and everything was great . DS was always the type to fall asleep nursing. I don't think it was that which caused it. One dentist said yes (our hometown dentist), the other said no way (pediatric dentist). DS just has very thin and weak teeth. Fortunately DD has the opposite! Her chompers are massive, lol!

Hopefully you can find someone that will work for you.

Thank you that is nice of you to offer. I live on the other end of the state near knoxville. As for the solids ds still eats very little usually in the middle of the day he will eat almost anything I do tho just he prefers to nurse still. I need to be more vigalant about brushing for sure it is easy to forget.

Thank you all for your responces it has really helped to have the support. When I mentioned what the dr said about bfeeding to my mom and brother they thought that was prolly the answer : I got a bit PO'ed when my mom said well formula and bm r pretty much the same thing anyway so that is possible I havnt got the energy right now to argue with her about it.
