Does this woman annoy anyone else? She is so pretentious on her show. I can't put my finger on it, but I can't stand this show or her. Pompous comes to mind, her laugh makes me batty it's so fake!

Ok I had to get that off my chest it has been bothering me for weeks

She has great recipes though!

She doesn't bother me too much, but I agree she can be a bit much. Especially the markets she shops in, like any average viewer would have access to that kind of stuff, kind of makes me laugh a little.
But her recipes are great!

I love her. However, I can see what you mean. She was one of Martha Stewart's behind the scene consultants for years. The fact that she's this rather- large woman that's been so successful impresses me. I have a couple of her cook books and like them. Beautiful foodie photos and some good recipes. I enjoy seeing her opulent home and watching her put loads of butter and cream in everything. Gawd, her food is rrrich!

I don't know, she always seems pretty down-to-earth and likeable to me.
She reminds me people I know, I guess.

Then again, anyone I compare to that culinarily-challenged, high-strung, Stepfordized whippet, Sandra Lee (of Semi-Homemade fame), seems likeable to me.....

Pompous, fake and pretentious. I am so glad to hear someone else thinks this way about her! And that laugh grates on my nerves.
That said, I do make her lemon bars and her cheesecake, and I like her better than Sandra Lee.
Now, Paula Deen, there's someone I could watch all day long!
OMG, Paula Deen cracks me up!
"Now, you want to to take your sticks of butter, and just just wrap your bacon around them....
Now, we're gonna let those chill before we deep fry 'em, so let's work on the cream sauce to dip those in....."

One good thing about her that an op mentioned is that she is a large woman and she obviously enjoys eating and the food she makes, which is nice to see.
My heart belongs to Lidia's Italian Kitchen/Family Table though. I just love her, and her family on the show!

I agree that it is good to see a larger women successful, but she seems like a snot. I didn't know that she worked at MSL so that explains alot, the Queen of the Snots. And yes I like her recipes, but just not her.

NOw Paula Deen, there is a larger woman who is just so real and wonderful! I want to write to her and be her friend!

I know, I could totally see being her friend!

Ina bothers me too, her nervous laugh grates my nerves. And her relationship with her husband seems fake. She seems to like the gay florist more than him! I think it might be an Hamptons thing for me, it seems everyone there is fake and snobby (of course this wouldn't refer to any mamas on mothering).

I agree about the Hamptons thing, I am from LI not far from the Hamptons and alot of ppl are like her

OMG- Paula Deen is my idol. I cook from her cookbooks all the time. I am still trying to convinve dh that we *need* to go to Savannah on vacation so I can stalk her and HOT sons. (well, I leave off the last part of that sentence if he's around to hear it)

As for Ina Garten, I watch her and take it with a grain of salt, kwim? I just always assume that her personality or whatnot is due to her surroundings, ie. very Hamptons-ish. Most of her friends that she just happens to invite over to her house have the same affected mannerism. But her one friend TJ or whatever is name is with the scruffy facial hair is hot! But I definitely prefer her to Sandra Lee or Sarah Moulton- those are my 2 least favorite Food Network cooks (followed closely by the low fat/ low carb dudes).

See now I like Sandra Lee, I like that she gives me low cost options to making things, not cheese that costs $10 a pound like Ina~ I don't even watch Ina anymore but when I flick on her and give it another go I usually get irritated.

I too want to stop at Paula Deen restautrant every time we drive to Florida

She is on the Food Network and she is the Barefoot Contessa, THAT name speaks volumes about her attitude. And she also owns a store in the Hamptons which she goes to shop for things on the show

We don't have cable (or watch tv very much) so I never see these shows unless I am at my dad's house. I LOVE Ina, I love her show and I think she seems fun and interesting. But hey, I've got a mad crush on Nigella Lawson, so what does that say about me? I guess I just like 'pretentious'? I like Martha alot too.

Paula Deen, oh my. No. I can't stand her voice, it's so nasally. Dh and I laugh hysterically at the way she slurps her food and rolls her eyes all around her head when she eats. She looks like she enjoys her food a little too much, if ya get my drift! I always expect her to throw her head back, moan and clutch the table.

Know who really gets on my nerves? that Everyday Italian one - Giada? Something like that? she also gets semi-orgasmic over her own cooking, and the camera work on that show drives me berserk.

I have one of Ina's Barefoot Contessa cookbooks but I can't bring myself to cook those artery clogging recipes of hers! Sheesh! How much butter, cream, cream cheese, sour cream, and sugar can one person consume?? I'm surprised that she's not bigger. She's actually quite slim considering how incredibly rich her recipes are. But Paula Deen is much more watchable than Ina. Paula is so down-home and friendly. I feel like she would give me a hug as soon as she met me! She's charming whereas Ina has a pretentious air about her. Everything is the Hamptons and "oh my fabulous friend in the Hamptons who is a ". I watch the show partly because I can't believe someone actually irons her napkins and table cloths! C'mon. Do women still do that? I don't have the time to iron even my work clothes!
I like Rachel Ray's show. Anyone else a fan of her 30 Minute Meals?

OMG she drives me bonkers! I could never quite describe what I thought of her but you just did it for me

Ina Garten has some awesome recipes, but she is a bit foo-foo to me. Her house is gorgeous too. I like to watch her show for ideas but most of the stuff I would never cook. Paula Deen is kinda annoying sometimes, but seems like a nice person. I'm not super into her style of cooking though, so thats probably why I usually skip her shows.

My favs are Rachel Ray's 30 min meals and Everyday Italian. I've made lots of yummy stuff from both shows. I think I own all of Rachel Ray's cookbooks, and use them frequently.

I'll leave Ina Garten and Paula...and the "whippet" Sandra Lee (I loved that. lol)

And just give me Alton Brown. Any day of the week.

In her defense, the Barefoot Contessa is actually the name of the high end, specialty foods shop she bought and ran for a while. It was already named that. But, yes, I'm sure the title is supposed to refer to her now.

And, the Barefoot Contessa is a old movie with Ava Gardner and Humphrey Bogart.

Yes, I'd drop the dishrag for Alton Brown.
