Pre-eclampsia & homebirth

Does a history of pre-eclampsia (had it twice) risk me out of homebirth automatically? Anyone know where I can find more info on this?

I don't think it does automatically...I had a mild case of it in my first pg and even GD in my second pg and the homebirth mw's accepted me for a homebirth for my third.

I'd check with midwives in your area (if you haven't already).

Good luck!!

Have you seen the Blue Ribbon baby website? Dr. Tom Brewer...He just died a week ago today but the work he did will live on long after...
That website shows how to avoid pre-eclampsia, it is nutritionally related, so if that is addressed, unless symptoms come up again, *I* would not necessarily rule someone out of a homebirth...especially if she was diligent with her diet, making sure she got lots of protien and other nutrients. Website is www.blueribbonbaby.org Hope that helps.

Ahh I am getting scared to hope, you guys....

I have been (and am there now) looking on the Brewer site. We're going to start TTC in April/May and I want to have the lifestyle changes integrated BEFORE then, so I'm not trying to deal w/morning sickness/etc while starting a new way of eating.

Homebirth... I am just really scared to even hope.

Wow! My understanding, and the sticky here, says the Pre-E is NOT necessarily nutrition related...that it can happen to anyone although there are certainly risk factors but that NOTHING can prevent Pre-E.

Maybe Pam or mwherbs or one of our Pre-E experts can weigh in. I would hate for their to be wrong info about such a devastating disease floating around.
