Beginner to Sewing

Got my machine home last night, its a Brother 3500. I was a little nervous because searching past threads I saw a few times where people weren't happy with them, but I love it. I read the manual and practiced at the same time. Last night I threaded the bobbin, threaded the top needle, and practiced about 10 different type of stiches using the tension. And I love the foot pedal, much easier to control the speed. Tonight I am going to examine some of my curtains and see whats all to it. Also want to try making the rice bags that you heat up, but what kind of rice do you use? Plain rice? Buckwheat? I am thinking these will make good gifts. Can't wait to learn but am still debating on finding a class to take.

Congratulations! I am glad you like your machine! Feel free to ask tons of questions.

I use plain white rice, the cheaper the better, for rice packs. A few lavendar buds mixed in with the rice adds a nice scent. If you make a plain pack and a cute print cover, the cover can be washed which is also nice.
