A great book!

I will xpost this in the Media forum, but wanted to share it here per the discussion about Santa and the holidays. I just found a great book at the library called Christmas Makes Me Think, by Tony Medina. It is about a boy who looks forward to Christmas because of all the presents and food, etc. Then he starts thinking about deeper things. He says, "How could we pray and sing and wish for nice good things when trees are choppd down for us to hang bulbs and lights on them?" Instead he thinks it would be better just to visit a tree and give it presents. He wishes they could feed turkeys and pigs instead of eating them. He askes, "What about all the people who don't have a place to live or food to eat or presents under a tree?" and shows an illustration of a homeless man in a tattered coat getting food out of the trash, and two others sitting on a bench huddled in blankets. In the end he convinces his friends to give their toys to kids who don't have any toys, and they feed the homeless people and give them new coats and scarves and hats. The characters in the book have different skin colors, too. The boy is African decent.

That does sound like a wonderful book, thanks for sharing. Looks like it brings the focus of Christmas on the true meaning of the season!
