UPDATE #25: Really upset about YMCA dance class - Page 2

Poor Abi!

I agree with what everyone else is saying... I would pursue it with her supervisor, and ask about a refund. I know it won't repair the hurt caused by the teacher, but maybe you can find another dance class in the area that is more, for lack of a better term, child-friendly. :

Oh, that just beaks my heart. to your dd.

And like everyone else said, I would complain, too. That's just not fair.

Poor Abi! I really hope that you resolve this with the supervisor, I'm angry for all the kids in that class!

Wow, how cruel!

I definitely can't imagine that the other parents are OK with this nonsense, why don't you try to talk with them before complaining and maybe you could all complain together as a whole group?

I went in to the office of the Program Director today and shared my concerns. Basically what I wrote in the OP. Although she was very professional with her responses, her face was showing disbelief and sympathy. She said there would be a recital for *all* the dance students.

Thanks for supporting me in my anger and sadness, and validating my feelings. I'm so glad this has a happy ending.

I'm about to cry just reading this! I know my 4-year old would be devastated. Big hugs to both of you!

to you for advocating for your daughter and her peers in a situation that was so unreasonable. We've been part of ballet Y programs in two different parts of the country and nothing remotely like this has gone on there. In fact, I must admit that I was initially put off by the whole idea of a recital at such a young age, when my dd began classes. I later came to really appreciate the fact that it gives the children and their teacher something to work toward and the kids love it SO much. The point is clearly the process and NOT the product.

I am sorry that this teacher didn't communicate with parents or other staff at her Y to ask for help earlier if she was having troubles with the class.

I am glad your daughter will be part of the recital!

Just saw this thread. I'm so glad that you went to see the Program Director.
All of the girls should be in the recital! What an awful way to treat girls, especially in their first class. My 4-year-old DD was in her first recital just last night. She had a wonderful time and is still on Cloud 9 dancing around the house. She wants to do it again tonight

Good! I'm so glad that you got this all figured out The instructor... just wow... I can't even put into words the rage I would be feeling if my dd had been in that class... you handled it very well!

love and peace.

I was totally stunned when I read your OP. That teacher is way way way out of line. I know that my son would be absolutly devastated.

Good for you for advocating for your daughter. I hope she and the other children in her class have a fabulous time performing their little hearts out at the recital.
