suggestions for storage in lieu of closet space

My family and I are moving into an old home (built in the 1910s or 1920s) in January. Like many homes of this vintage, it lacks closet space. We definitely don't own a lot of "stuff" and we're not big consumers by any stretch but I'm wondering how I can creatively make do with the 3 small closets we'll have. There is no linen closet, no hall closet and the closets in the bedroom are miniscule. We're on a very very tight budget too!

Any creative storage suggestions?

Thanks!

Our house was built in 1900. Fortunately we have three walk in closets that really help.

I would try things like storing underneath beds in plastic bins. Stackable bins inside closets that you do have or closet dividing things. We don't have a large pantry area or a lot of storage space in the kitchen but we have a hankerchief dresser in the kitchen to help with storage and a cheap pantry from Target to help store more stuff. It really helps.

Good luck. Storing stuff is always such a PITA.

Wardrobes, trunks, hooks, and hall trees. We've actually found big wardrobes and chests free or cheap used; they're not pretty, but they can be refinished.
