Female Warriors in the movies

I'm looking for movies that feature women warriors. You know, a$$-kicking, funny, hard women or girls who know how to take care of problems. Bonus points if the movies have good music and swords.

Some of my favorites are:

Hmm, thats two Geena Davis movies - maybe its the red hair and height? She also did a pirate one that wasn't very good (in about 1996 maybe), but since I always wanted to be a pirate, I dug it.

Million Dollar baby
Girlfight (I love this movie)
Sin City (lowertown is run by some serious warrior women!)
Walk the Line (June carter cash could hold her own even if she didn't do it physically)
House of Flying Daggers

Yes, totally agree about House of Flying Daggers. And that first fight in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, between the two women running across roof tops, that was fantastic in the theater.

I've never seen Walk the Line, but I've wanted to. Time to hunt it downin our library system.

And I love HoFD too, I just forgot about it!

But my favorites so far are Crouching Tiger.. and Kill Bill. Music. Swords. Great choreographed martial arts.

An OK movie, imo, but not overly fantastic. Still, probably not as bad as Catwoman is purported to be (haven't seen it, won't see it).

To add to the list:

Hero has some pretty fantastic women warrior scenes in it. I love that movie more than House of Flying Daggers (and maybe -- maybe -- more than CTHD, but I'm waiting a few years to make that judgement! ) Tho nothing really beats the drum/ dancing/warding off daggers scene from HoFD for sheer costume brilliance! And nothing will ever beat the bamboo scene in CTHD for sheer beauty, imo.

Zoe, the female warrior of Firefly/ Serenity kicks major butt! (So does River, in some episodes, and definitely in the movie!)

I think the Matrix has some great women warriors. I'm really a huge fan of the whole trilogy, not just the first one.

Eowyn killing the Raith King in LotR: Return of the King is a major woman warrior moment for me (what makes it even better for me, as a geek, is that Peter Jackson allows that scene to be taken pretty much straight from the page.) Though I would not say those movies (or the books) are high on the woman warrior list in general.

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting...

Well, CTHD is one of my all-time favorite movies, so Hero has some pretty tough work to do, imo. I just requested it, and I'll let you know.

I like that moment in LoTR, too! and the few scenes in the first matrix with Trinity. But... I really hated the other two movies in that series.

I'll probably check out elektra, too. Thanks for the clarification.

One day I'll see Serenity, too.

It's OK, candipooh, Electra is normally spelled with a "c" -- the comic book/ movie is a deviation from the norm

Hero is just a gorgeous movie, but I think the plot is what really differentiates it from CTHD: it is not what you'd normally expect, and it is groundbreaking in some ways. Not sure if it's as good (character developement is a little shaky, mostly because of the plot device they use) but it is AS good, imo.

I am a HUGE fan of the Matrix trilogy - the amazing philosophical/ religious implications of the last two movies, especially. I highly recommend watching the movies (all three) with the commentary by "The Philosophers" -- they echo most of what I think about the movies. (Their best advice is this: the first Matrix sets you up. The second movie tears the world of the first Matrix apart. The last movie shows you exactly what the W brothers meant the Matrix to mean in the first place.)

Also, watching the Animatrix helps somewhat, but I still know many geeks who hate the second two movies.

Of course, I'm a Post-Modernist and a non-dualist, and I think that helps a lot in my enjoyment, because those last two movies are really philosophic treaties in those two belief systems, imo.

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought of Serenity. Zoe is awesome in the series (Firefly) and River and Zoe both kick major butt in the movie.

I'm blanking on any others right now, besides what has already been mentioned.
