Strippy Skirt Questions

Thread Starter
I'm wanting to make a couple of skirts...I know that strippy skirts are pretty simple, but I thought I'd get some input from you super sewing mamas here. Here's my list o' questions:
-how many panels look best?
-what's a good width for the panels?
-I want to do drawstring waists, can someone give me the step-by-step on that? Pretty please?? Should I use the eyelet bracket thingys to give the holes some strength or is there another/simpler way? What should I use for cording?

Guess that about sums it up...yep, I've got lots of questions...I really just don't want to mess them up and waste fabric though, ykwim?

Thanks for any and all input, mamas!!

not that I'm a supe sewing mama but... this is what I though of doing. grabbing a skirt I have w/ the dimensions I want it to be and using that as a "pattern" and using 1/4 or smaller seam allowance? to match it up - does that make sense? I would use whatever for the cording and knot the ends - can do a button hole type to reenforce the holes? dunno thats just what i was thinking of doing. I just ordered some material to make my first

not that it helped you any and that was a bunch of mumbojumbo

I added a drawstring waist to a pair of bought pull-on pants - just did several button holes around the waist and threaded a cord through it - it works wells and was pretty easy as my sewing machine has an automatic button hole maker. The cord I used was a flat woven piece, apron tape I think it's called. It was left over from making roman shades.

I have no idea about panel size/number, but agree that trying to match it to something that fits well is a good idea.

I think that depends upon your height, really. I'm 5'2" and I'd probably do about 4 panels.

Again, I think it probably depends upon your height. The skirts I've seen have about 14" panels.

On the drawstring waist, it's pretty easy, really. Just fold over the top of the skirt like you're making a hem. I'd probably do buttonholes for the cord openings. For cording, I like to buy the cording by the yard from a fabric store. They have some neat silky cording that I think would be great for a skirt.
