So confused on embroidery machines

I'm *hoping* to get one as a Christmas present this year. I can't spend more than $1,000, and I want that to include the software for a PC to digitize any image for embroidering. It's probably asking for too much .

I've been searching & comparing different kinds until my head hurts . I've seen mixed reviews on Singer Quantums, which I saw was about $800 with the software. I don't want to get a junk machine (DH would have my head then!). I've seen Brother machines recommended a lot, as well as Baby Lock. I live in a rural area, and we don't have any sewing machine stores around here for a least 100 miles. Is there a good on-line store to shop from?

So, can anyone help me? I'm really sorry to be such a bother, but I want to make the most informed decision I can.

I know what you mean, there are mixed reviews on every machine it seems. I was going crazy until I decided to just buy the one I was drawn to

I have a Brother 270D and I really like it. You can get it for around $300 (w/o software or ultimate box thingy-I still need to get those lol) online. It's very easy to use, and the designs come out great. It only comes with one hoop (I haven't looked into getting a different size so I'm not sure if there are any) but it's a good size, I can't think of why I would need a bigger one. Probably not the best for biz embroidery, I just use mine for diapers and clothes for the kids and it's great.

Thanks for the info. How good does that one embroider words? Does it leave the little line going from letter to letter (or word to word)? That really annoys me . I guess I'm just going to have to pick one.

BTW, I looked at your blog, and you do a wonderful job making diapers! I'm no where near that good!

Once you buy the software you can use different patterns on it, right? That's the one I'm looking at, but I'm so unsure! How well do you think it would hold up to regular use?

nope, no lines. It snips the thread after each letter they you just have to trim the jump threads after it's done. Oh and thanks!

That's what I've been told. I'm probably going to buy the software and box after the holidays. I've had the machine for about 2 1/2 months so I can't tell you how well it holds up (yet).

I looked in the Yello Pages, and found a sewing machine dealer about an hour's drive away. She said they sell Babylocks, and had a used Esante (which will embroider a 5x7 area) for $1450, including all the software & hardware to use it with the computer. I'd get unlimited lessons, help, & support for as long as I have it.

I'm going to talk to DH & see what he says. I'm PRAYING our home equity loan goes through so I can get one!
