Anyone had a birth at The Farm? I am looking into this and wanted to know how much it costs, etc. Thanks!

If you're planning on HBAC with them, you will need to know what kind of suture you have (single or double layer) from the c/s. That is, if you didn't already know that. Although it's unclear what they're doing now I have heard of women being turned away with single layer.

I kind'a checked that out too but decided I REALLY wanted a birth at home, meaning in MY home. To the OP, I am in NC also...wonder if we're in the same area...I am close to TN.

Stafl had a VBAC at the Farm. You could pm her for more info, or find her signature. I would also call up the midwives at the Farm. I talked to one when we realized we would be moving back to TN when I was 6 months pregnant, and she was very nice.

I thought about it, but ultimately decided I didn't want to drive 90 minutes for my prenatals and birth, when there were excellent homebirth midwives where I was. I also really wanted to be in my own home where everything was comfortable and familiar.

I just met Ina May and heard her speak. I got all excited and the thought crossed my mind I can get pregnant again and go to the farm. Of course this is not realistic for me and my homebirth at "my home" was just great.
Good luck with your decisions.

Really? I got to meet her too! In October at a LLL conference. It was awesome. That is what got me thinking about the farm. But I have thought about it more, and I just don't want to have to ride in a car in labor. I just want to be comfortably at home. Thanks to everyone for the info!

Funny as this may sound...I think that the Farm would be way too interventive for me. Too many vaginal exams for me.

I'm with you, Sarah. Great stats but the births seem very managed to me. Good thing the commute would be a bit far

I agree.
While I acknowledge the huge contribution that the Farm Midwives have made I got to say the birth accounts in her books seem a little more interventive than I'd be comfortable with.
The amount of VE's is astounding - its such an unnecessary practice.

I did notice that. Thank you for mentioning it.

I am feeling very at peace with the decison made for a homebirth. When I was thinking of a birth at the farm, while I was excited at the "thought" of it, I was feeling more and more uncomfortable about the distance I would have to travel.
