washing soda/borax for front loader

We have a front loader and I've just started using half borax/half washing soda instead of detergent. It's been going pretty good. My latest concoction is third borax/third washing soda/third baking soda (for softening).

I'm wondering how much to use in my frontloader. When I look at similar 'recipes' it says to use a cup, but with frontloaders you generally use about a third of any recommended amount. I'm wondering what experiences others have had. I'd like to use as little as possible, but I'd rather figure it out before my diapers get stinky or my whites get dingy.

I use about 1/8 cup with whatever liquid soap I may be using. (usually, Dr. Bronner's or Seventh Gen.) I don't usually use it with the natural powdered detergents (Bio-Kleen)--I don't really have a reason though.
