What "grownup" songs did you like...

when you were a kid? What do your own kids like? Not grownups singing kids songs, but regular playing-on-the-radio songs.

Living in the sticks, my family listened to alot of country. I liked:
"Baby's Got Her Bluejeans On" -Mel Mcdaniel
and
"All My Ex's Live in Texas" -George Strait (don't know why I liked this one)

I also liked:
"Cheeseburger in Paradise" -Jimmy Buffett,
"Cover of the Rolling Stone" -Dr Hook,
and
"The Streak" -Ray Stevens

I liked those songs too! And "Jolene" by Dolly parton, "Elvira" by the Oak Ridge Boys (I think).

My absolute most favorite song when I was around 10 or so was, "The Tide is High" by Blondie. I listened to it over and over and over because I got the album for Xmas.

When my kids were little, they always wanted to hear "the big teaser song" - aka Day Tripper by the Beatles.

When we were on a long car trip when I was a kid, I always hoped "Convoy" would come on the radio .

I'm a parrothead still. I love me some Buffet.

I was a HUGE Randy Travis fan when I was little. And I loved the song 'Hotel California'.

My little one gets really active when I listen to anything with a good beat (Mr. Lif, Tortoise, Cornershop) but he's not out yet. I wonder what he'll like when he gets here!

ETA: I wore out the Robin Hood soundtrack..Everything I do, I do it for you. Bryan Adams. Rockin' good time!!

As a preschooler, I loved the Pretenders and Joe Jackson.

My son is 5 and loves "The Funny Lips" (The Flaming Lips), probably because he's been brainwashed by dh. His favorite song is Do You Realize. Whenever I have the radio set to classical in the house, he always changes it to the rock station that plays things like the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, so I guess he likes that too.

Dd is 2, and her favorite music is probably anything she sings herself. She likes just about everything...I'll have to pay more attention to her music interests, lol.

The theme song to my childhood would be the Beatles song "Here Comes the Sun" That IS me!

I still have the 45!!!!! Remember the compilation parody "Mr. Jaws"? I have that one, too. And "Brand New Key" by Melanie - that was one of my favorites.

I also liked "Delta Dawn" (and all things Helen Reddy) and "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" (Vicki Lawrence). I adored the Captain and Tenille.

I also loved 50s music - both rock n' roll and the old romantic stuff that people waltzed & foxtrotted to, like "Since I Don't Have You" (Johnny Tee). I took a lot of heat for it in 5th grade, too.

We listened almost exclusively to adult music as kids. We did have one red Chipmunks album - might have been holiday music?

I remember really liking Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd. Love to Love You Baby by Donna Summer. A song called Little Green Apples on a compilation 8 track we had. Carole King. Barbra Striesand. Abba. Doobie Brothers. Sonny and Cher. Ditto above poster on Helen Reddy and Captain & Tenille.

My kids listen almost exclusively to teen or adult music. Dd1's first favorite song was Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas. Dd2's first favorite was Uncle Kracker's remake of.... what was that song - about a year ago??

Dd1 is nine now and loves Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff. That kid has an iPod - and I don't even have one! But I am pretty sure Santa is going to come through for me this year.

Another Jimmy Buffet fan here! Patsy Cline and Kenny Rogers were two other favorites. We used to travel to see family every summer and those are the artists my parents would listen to. That's really the only time they ever listened to music intentionally.

the first 45s I ever bought..."Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy From Company B" Bette Midler
"Halfbreed" by Cher
"I Write the Songs" Barry Manilow.

A little later I really dug "Saturday Night" by the Bay City Rollers and "Lido Shuffle" who sang that??

as far as my kids...can't remember anything in particular, except when my ds was 3 he really liked "Secret" by Madonna

I loved the songs from a local band (Ron Lloyd) that my mom was friends with back then. They had a song called "Chief Joseph" that I liked, and a few others. I liked the Carpenters and Anne Murray, Crystal Gayle, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, "Paper Roses" by Marie Osmond, and "Jose Cuervo" by Shelly West, the Eagles, and on and on lol.

I never really listened to kids music. My kids didn't (don't) much either. They like all sorts of stuff from wayyyy back to current to somewhere in the middle. Our tastes are pretty eclectic. We like classic country and new country, classic rock, hard rock, some punky rock, etc. You are just as likely to hear The Black Eyed Peas here as you are The Who lol.
