Dryer shuts off before cycle done

Tonight I have restarted the dryer 3 times and may have to do it again now because I don't hear it running.
It's maybe 10 years old.
Has anyone else ever had this experience? I'm not sure if it's overheating or something else.
It's not the circut tripping.
Thanks for reading my incredibly fascinating post.

LOL..try having one that won't turn itself off. i once dried a load for 2 days before I realized it. Ours is the timer and it is just as old as yours. Have your DH check that.

Is it on a timer or a humidity detector?

I would check the timer. Also, is it a heavy load? I've had heavy loads jar the door just enough that it would pop open and (obviously) shut off.

Lets see...
It's a timed dryer.
The cycle I almost always use is the "Very dry/not as dry " one.

The door isn't opening (good idea though). It just shuts off. I can push the start button and it runs again.
It shut off 5 times this cycle which is a record. It used to be once or twice.
I hope we don't have to buy another but sometimes calling a repair person costs as much as a new appliance.

Do you any fabric softener or fabric softener sheets? There is a sensor in the dryer that gets "coated" and it can't detect the dampness level.

I'm confused- is it supposed to run for a set amount of time, or is it supposed to know when the clothes are dry? It sounds like the cycle you're using has a humidity detector, which might be wonky. Have you tried other settings that tell you a number of minutes? How do they work?

Could be the timer - or the thermostat might be malfunctioning and tripping a safety thing to shut it off.

It's probably be a good idea to have it looked at. IMO malfunctioning dryers are nothing to mess with.
