any ideas on adding a ribbon closure?

I have this beautiful oriental black maternity top...
I just got it back from a girlfriend I let her borrow it.......
I am still in love with this top but no longer pregnant...
I tried it on...
just a little loose in the belly region...
I'd like to sew a ribbon- tie type of closure in the back to tighten it up...
any ideas?

the simplest thing is to tack (by hand or machine) 2 ribbons to the side seams, and then tie them in the back. You could also add buttonholes accross the middle of the back at hte waistline and thread the ribbon through them to make it a little nicer and to control the gathering better.

Fanciest would be to stitch loops down the back a few inches from the center on either side and lace a ribbon into them, tying closed at the bottom.
