Is there a special hose you have to use to fill up a pool to labor in?? We will not birth in the pool, but plan to stay in until baby is just about born. Would love to birth there, but it is not possible.

We just bought a regular garden hose.

A lot of Mamas buy "drinking safe" hoses tho.

MW instructed us to get a regular hose and rinse with peroxide and that's what we did.

HA! Our funny hose story...Beforehand, I went to Lowes and bought a drinking water safe one for RVs-it was white...never bothered to try it on our bathroom sink...so when Midwife told hubby to fill the tub and get me in it, we tried it and didn't work. Didn't fit the faucet hardware, so hubby ran the hose from outside the house and just filled with cold water and then ran our dog washing shampoo hose from the shower and it just barely reached the birth tub, for some hot water...only thing is that while he was filling with hot, he had the garden hose thru the bedroom window and stationed with a brick also from outside, to hold it steady and right when it filled to the top, the brick and all its mud fell in!!! Midwife said not to worry and dropped some antiseptic drops in and life and a beautiful birth went right on...I wanted to be in the bed to push though.

So, I guess the point is to do a practice fill first
Best Wishes!

For our home waterbirth we used a Python No-Spill siphon, usually used to fill and empty fish tanks. It doesn't leach anything into the water and is very safe. It fills and empties the pool and comes with the proper hardware to attach it to the faucet. It comes in different lengths 25 to 100+ feet! http://www.pythonproducts.com/nospill.htm

My dh loved it because he didn't have to use buckets to empty the birth pool or to add hot water and I loved it because he'd take some water out and add hot water without disturbing me a bit.
