DD really wanted to see Zathura, and it had gotten pretty decent reviews so DH and I took her yesterday. I was a little concerned that the robot and the aliens would scare her, but she had read the book and knew that everything turned out okay, and as it turned out, she wasn't scared.

But I was really surprised at some of the language. especially because it wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews, even the part of my newspaper called "Family Filmgoer" that gives you warnings about language or sex or drugs or violence or anything else potentially offensive or inappropriate. In the first five minutes, the little 6 year-old boy said "You're such a d*ck!" to his brother, and no, I didn't hear it wrong, because then his dad scolds him for using that kind of language. And later, the older boy tells the robot to "Bring me a Coke, bee-yotch!" Plus both the dad and kids use the word "sucks" a couple of times.

It went right over DD's head, but DH and I exchanged some very shocked looks during this movie!
