Serger Recommendations

I was wondering if those of you that have sergers could recommend one?

I'm a complete novice when it comes to sergers, so bear that in mind

Go to a local sew shop . By local I do not mean joannes (unless there is an independent shop inside joannes) or walmart. Go to a little sew shop and buy from them. Lessons are almost always included in the price of those machines

I am partial to husky myself

I love, love, love Babylock. Their top of the line sergers (the E series) are the most well-thought out, user-friendly machines ever. Plus they have jet-air threading for the loopers which not only makes threading the things totally effortless, it makes the loppers really strong so they don't get bent.

I have a Juki I am very very fond of, and a Babylock I don't love so much. The Babylock needs a tuneup though, and I got it for free, so maybe that's why.

When I bought my serger this time last year, I almost got a Juki but ended up buying the Janome 634D instead. The sew shop I bought from told me that they used to carry Jukis but in early 2004 the quality went way down (new factory?) and they had so many complaints that they stopped selling them. Granted, I never did any extensive research into their claim, so take that with a grain of salt.

Boingo, what year is your Juki? Have you heard similar things?

I haven't heard that (but then I haven't been shopping for new machines lately) but my Juki is an MO-134. It is the 2nd home serger they ever made, back in 1980-something. Before that they made all industrial models, so the serger has very little plastic and is just rock solid.
