Ultrasound - when can you see the hbeat?

I've had bleeding since 2dpo because of low p, it has stopped since started on p supp but I'm nervous and hoping the dr will do an ultrasound soon. When can you actually "see" that everything is okay? I am just 4 weeks and a couple of days at this point.

Thanks!

I *think* 5.5-6 weeks...but I could be wrong...

In my internet surfing and doctor calling I have learned that you don't see much until later. I think before 6 weeks you see a fetal sac and then at around 7-8 weeks you see a heartbeat. Have you had your HCG levels checked? I am getting mine checked tomorrow. Yesterday they looked good but then I spotted once and then had lots of menstrual type cramping all day and today. Everything I read sounds like that is the bad type of cramping to have so I am not too hopeful. I'll find out tomorrow and if my numbers are still doubling then I guess all is well. I hope you are able to find the answers you seek!

I second the idea of having HCG levels drawn. Your levels should be doubling every few days, so a couple of lab sticks may give you an indicator of what is going on. Typically you can see the HB around 6 wks on ultrasound.

Yup, you can see the heartbeat at 6 weeks. Both my previous pgs I had ultrasounds at 6 weeks and saw that amazing little beating heart.

Good luck!

Thank you! And, yes, they did draw blodd for a quant hcg, but only one with no follow-up. I'll check with the dr today to see if he'll be ordering a second one.

I was able to see the heartbeat at 6 weeks. My doctor said that usually at 6 weeks 3 days is when the heart starts beating and can be detected.

Don't get your heart set on that 6 week number - it is a recipe for panic. Somtimes it isn't visible until 10 or 11 weeks even. It just depends.

Good luck and best wishes!

I learned today from my OB's office that seeing the heartbeat was more dependent on your hcg levels. >6000 is when you can see a baby and heartbeat.

By the way, my hcg levels are at 4700 as of this morning and doubling every 30 hours. It looks like all is well and the cramping might be normal though I don't remember anything like this with my first. I have also had two episodes of light spotting and have been told to lay off the exercising, don't lift my toddler, and take it easy. Yay!

Vick, i did read something similar on hcg levels and the heartbeart. Thanks for posting it! Also, that's a great update! Congrats and bet it's a huge relief to know everything looks fine!

Thanks, Steph. I am relieved! Tomorrow I am getting an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic because of the cramping and spotting I have been having. The HCG #s indicate all is well but I will feel much better after a good ultrasound. I haven't ever had one this early before. I am excited to see the heartbeat. Will give an update once I have one.

Vick, my hcg levels look great, 12/6 = 319, 12/8 = 798. Not bad for 17dpo! My u/s is scheduled for 12/23. Keep me posted on your u/s!
