Which needle do I use?

I am sewing a layer of ripstop nylon onto a layer of cotton/poly blend. Do I use the microfibre needle for the nylon, or the other needle for the cotton? Does it matter which type of fabric is on top and the first to contact the needle? I'm a beginning sewer

Do a sample run with a small rectangle of the fabrics together. Try the regular needle first. I suspect that will be your best choice.

You might stick with the Universal needle, which may be the type yuo are already using on cotton.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to add that I am making a wetbag out of these materials, so waterproofing is important. I'll try both needles and test them out. Thanks!
