Dying Covers!

I know it's quasi-ot...
But I bought some dharma dyes the other day, and set forth dying the scads of small side snap shirts (for my next baby, yet to be TTCed, and all the mama friends who cd and are pregnant!) some shirts for me and the boy...prefolds, and my white bumpy cover from my son's newborn days.

I asked here and at the pin several times to see if anyone had tried dying a bumpy, and nobody had...so I wanted to post pics here and show it *can* be done, and with beautiful results!!

i'm really amazed, it's gorgeous! the dye only stuck to the main fabric, not the velcro or binding. wow. makes me a little itchy...to buy some dye

No, it's the regular pul bumpy cover. *not* the new "soft" ones, but the day/night ones with the cotton outers.
They come in prints and white, and the place I ordered it from waayyy back when only had white instock in that size, and i've been itching to try and dye it since then...heh...2 years now!

Thanks!
Orange wouldn't have been my first choice, I'd actually wanted marigold yellow but I did a coop and nobody else wanted it, so I decided "soft orange" would be close. Who knew it would be CARROT orange...lol!

Bumpy covers (According to the site) are PUL inner, with a "100% cotton" outer, which explains why it took the dye so easily. I figured it would, but nobody had done it when I asked repeatedly!

I'm totally buying some "newborn" sized ones and dying them for my next baby....esp robin's egg blue. I LOVE that color...I still have a handful of things to dye blue that wouldn't fit into the first batch....I wanted to dye everything we owned RE blue!

I have some ProRaps that seem to be cotton on the outside. Do you think they are? After all, PUL is laminate on a fabric. You've inspired me to give this a try! ProRaps are so blah and boring. They remind me of hospitals, being so functional and antiseptic and boring and impersonal. But purple! orange! vivid green! Yay! Hugs to Shan! :

Whoot! I got a dancing banana!

Bumpy are the only covers *I* know of with cotton instead of polyester on the outer. The few prowraps i've seen are poly....
I do know you can dye PUL, but not with dharma fiber reactive...But I know the wahm at blue lake dyed pul to make verybaby diapers.
I wonder what kind you would need..hrrm...

I think she uses fabric paints, not true dyes...if you poke around Dharma there are several kinds that work on polyester.

there was the pigment stuff I saw, and then the industrial dye which comes in the big packages that dissolve...neither of which seemed like it would work to dye covers...lol

I'd be curious to find out how to dye up poly though, myself!
