Stabilizers for embroidery

How do you know which kind to use, and for what material? Is it a trial-and-error type thing? I'm hoping to find out if I can get an embroidery machine soon (within a week). So, I'm starting to look into more designs and the techniques of it.

I've found a used Babylock Esante in a nearby town that comes with everything I'll need (- the thread), and with computer hook up software/hardware. Plus FREE unlimited lessons & support!

Thank you for your help!

it all depends on what you like...

in my expirience tear away is thinner...so you want to use it on thicker fabric or use several layers...

Cut away is pretty thick and i prefer to not use it on the PUL of diapers because it creates a "bubble" when you place the piece of PUL on the back of the embroidery to seal it...

I have not tried wash away but this would work well if you are using it on TOP of your work..like if you are embroidering on something htat has a high pile...like terry or velour youdont want the design to get lost inside the fabric...KWIM?

thats my expirience... Cut away is the most versitile though...I got a big roll of cut away and use it most of the time except on PUL...

Thank you! I finally got my machine on friday. She gave me a small roll of the tear-away. Is there an on-line chart or something that says what stabilizer to use with different fabrics?
