Essential oils in skincare- are they safe?

Do you check the ingreds list on your skincare to see what they contain? I know some EO are contraindictory during pregnancy, like sage, lavender, even rose, etc.... and I found them in my Kiss My Face night creme..... I reckon it must be in rather small amts, since EO are concentrated, and they are usu not the "main" ingreds in the product.... but still, I wonder if regular use will cause any problems in pregnancy.
Any ideas??

Hi,
I've had some aromatherapy traing due to my job. What I usually tell people is that the only safe essential oil to use in the first trimester is citrus, mainly mandarin or tangerine. However make sure you don't put it directly on the skin, and wash it off before you go out in the sun.
After four months you can start using lavender as well.
But, saying that, I have to say that because of my job (I do skin and body care at a spa) I have used quite a bit of essential oils during this pregnancy and have been fine. As far as essential oils in skincare products, its probably ok, since they are very diluted and are usually not pure essential oils. I would however, avoid anything that has pine, juniper, rosemary,(any of the piney ones) sage, or jasmine just to be on the safe side.
Anyway, I hope this helps!
