Introducing Myself

I wasn't a part of the MDC DDC when ds was born 2 years ago, so this set up is new to me.

Regardless, I thought I'd say hello, and congrats to all the newly BFP mamas, and introuce myself a bit. I'm Amy, still-nursing mom to my sweet 2 year old ds, Henry, and wife to my perpetually working dh, Rob. I work 2 WAHM jobs significantly part-time, and generally enjoy puttering about my house and baking with my ds. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and sharing this wonderful journey!

Welcome Amy! Glad to see you here! I look forward to a fun 9 months with you!

Do you have any pointers on making baking with my almost 2 y.o. any easier? I like doing it with her but I feel like a big mess is always involved

We bake (usually cookies or muffins) a number of times a week, and nearly every day this time of year. As for mess ... yes, always a problem, but I've gotten ds into the habit of having to "wipe up" his messes, so now there's usually a big "uh-oh mess" followed by a request for a towel. And he's gotten neater as he's gotten older and has better motor skills.

I usually use big, deep bowls, allow him to pour rather than measure (I'm waiting for the "I do myself" to come, though), stick to lightweight measuring cups and spoons, and try to use the stand mixer as much as possible to avoid having him "stir." Sometimes I just give him a measuring cup with chips or raisins and he's content to eat and watch if I'm doing something potentially messy or dangerous. When we make muffins, he LOVES to put the liners in the muffin tin, so that's a great way to distract him while I do something myself that would be hugely mess inducing if he did it.

But he loves to roll out cookies and pie crusts, and use cookie cutters (just like edible play-doh!). We're going to try decorating cookies this year, which I assume will mean me finding sprinkles all over the house for months to come, but he really loves it and gets very excited when the mixer comes out. If you want some kid friendly kitchen gadget ideas, PM me. I'm the queen of kitchen gadgets.

Amy, I remember you from the One Thread! Welcome and congrats! Yo're making me wish I baked! I usually never do that because that means I eat all of it

But, if you'd be willing to share some muffins recipes, I know ds would LOVE those!
