What fabric to use for a sling? X-posted

I'd like to try to sew a pouch-type sling, and was wondering which fabric would work best. Anything but fleece because we live in FL and it gets hot here.

I am right along with you Jilian, i would like to know what fabric to use on my slings. Please help us both anyone.

I make ring slings, not pouch ones, but I love woven batiks. They are bright, cheerful, and I use the scraps to make clothes for the kiddos. Also sometimes there are other wovens at Jo-Ann's that are a little more tribal/traditional.

HTH!

I also really like the woven batiks...the print is on both sides so you don't end up with an "ugly side". I also use 2 layers of quilter's cotton for slings, that way they're reversible. I've also used twill, microcorderouy, bottomweight cotton and stretch twill with good results.

Personally I prefer medium weight twills. I just love the feel of them in my hand (yes I know I am weird LOL) and they just feel strong to me. Yes one side is "ugly" but the only yarn dyed sling that I have is a PITA to adjust because I can't tell the good from the bad side LOL so I love my slings where that isn't a problem
