Help finding pants for long, thin 4 yr old

Hello. My son is 4 yrs old and is the tall, skinny type. We're having trouble finding pants to fit him b/c 4T are too short, but 5T are too big in the waist. He walks around trying to pull his pants up to his chest (he'll make a great grandpa one day!), and lately won't even wear most of the pants b/c "they are too big" or "they fall down", but 4T is way too short. I'm worried he'll be in size 6 soon but have a 4T-sized waist.

Has anyone found a brand of clothing for kids like this? Oh, and he doesn't like jeans, which makes it hard (he likes "soft" pants).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Check the Gap and Old Navy. They both make toddler sizes up to 5 that have an adjustable waist (nice elastic with buttons for adjustment) AND they also make their kids sizes in "slim". So, for example, you could try a size "5 slim" on your son. This would be the regular length of a size 5, but have the waist of a 4 and has a slimmer thigh. AND these will usually also have an adjustable waist as well. That means you may even be able to go up to a 6 slim for the length, which will have the waist of a 5, but since it's adjustable you can tighten it up to fit.

In your son's case, I'd probably go for the kids sizes over the toddler sizes just because of the way his body shape sounds. The toddler sizes might be a bit bulkier in the legs.

Lots of other brands are making the adjustable waist, like Cherokee at Target, which is great for my slim 5 yo. He also does well with 5 slim Levis. I think Lands End has slims as well.

LandsEnd.com has a ton of elastic waist pants for toddlers and everything has a completely no hassle return policy which is very nice. They have a lot of them that are 100% cotton too which is VERY nice. My husband is exactly like your toddler, has been his whole life and STILL has a hard time finding pants in the right size!

Pants

My son is the same way. Toys R Us sell slim pants and I just recently found him adjustable waist pants at JCPenny. Old Navy also sell the adjustable waist. He loves not having to keep pulling his pants up anymore.

Land's End and Osh Kosh also have adjustable waistband pants. Land's End has them in slim, too. Ds1 is another one of those long skinny guys - I have to adjust most waistbands 4-5 notches on EACH side!

My Dd is the same way, and elastic waists aren't even small enough. I've had good luck with Hanna Andersson because those clothes are meant to be worn a few seasons.

Unfortunately, that brand is very expensive; but if you catch the online/catalog clearance sales (or are very, very lucky to have one of the few outlets near you like I am, as well as lots of these used items for sale around here in resale shops close to the outlets), then they can be gotten more reasonably and then have great resale value.

Thank you all for the great suggestions! Now I'm off to shop (or better yet, to pass the information on to his grandma!).

Happy Holidays!

The Land's End "Climber" pants have a built in belt. Toddler's sizes has just a faux belt for safety reasons, but older kids has a functional belt, I believe.

Also Gap has adjusable waistbands.
