Post-partum at Maimonides is a particularly nasty experience, with rude, despicable, disrespectful staff (except for the LC). My baby was literally snatched out of my arms for useless test after useless test - apparently, they don't like to see babies born weighing more than 8 lbs there, such a "big" baby must have something wrong to diagnose. The formula pushing is unbelievable; even though there are posters in front of every maternity bed extolling the virtues of colostrum, there were staff members ignorant enough to insist on wanting to know the number of ounces of colostrum my baby consumed. Trying to nurse my baby instead of getting it tested and formula-fed got 4 personnel in my room threatening to put my baby in NICU so that I wouldn't be able to see him at all! Even as we were leaving they tried to force formula samples and even disposable diapers on us! (Why the heck do they care what we put on our baby's bottom?!)
It was also a dirty place; at one point before my son was extracted, I had a hep-lock put in. The nurse doing it spent the whole time complaining that IV is easier, jabbed me multiple times before getting it right and ended up spilling some of my blood on the floor. The blood stayed there for many hours; it was still there on the floor when we left that room.
We did not choose to be at Maimonides; I ended up there when I was risked out of the Brooklyn Birth Center for completely bogus reasons.
