Circ adhesion info...

Of course I believe this advice goes contrary to the AAP's recommendation, but what's the best way to correct:

One other point about retraction needs to be flagged up too.

In the early stages, after almost all circumcisions, the foreskin stump needs to be pulled away from the glans rim at every diaper change and bath. After dabbing the healing area, it needs to be liberally coated with Vaseline, or some other cream your operator may provide. The reason is that the glans and cut edge of the foreskin are initially quite raw from the premature separation and have a tendency to re-adhere to each other. If allowed to do so it causes problems that may have to be painfully dealt with later on. The retraction routine should be maintained until you are sure healing is complete. You may be astonished how fast this healing can be. Some look perfectly normal - like they were born that way - in only a week or so. A circumcision often heals well ahead of the umbilical cord.

Also, what's the info on this website: www.circinfo.com

I dont' have time for this but it makes me just sick.....

That's what I was afraid of. SOmeone else (a women TTC) posted the link to that site- she did a google search and that is what came up. I'll private email her and let her know- I'm sure she's unaware of the whole issue.

The adhesion infromation came from Tony a person who cl's another bulletin board and is posting that info to a group of women as part of a 'guest of the week' .

I'm sorry, I should have split the 2 questions up.

"Isn't circumcision very painful?
As with any surgery there is a degree of discomfort involved but modern, safe anaesthetics and analgesics can make this insignificant. Babies neither anticipate and fear possible pain, nor remember it afterwards. They are also unable to localise it and don't in any way relate their circumcision to 'sex'."

WHAT?!?!?!? THAT HAS GOT TO BE THE BIGGEST LOAD OF GARBAGE I EVER HEARD!

Jessica, actually, it is correct but it needs to be detailed and amplified.

The problems come because the remnant foreskin may try to re-adhere for months and years. This site and others as well as doctors and nurses lead the mothers to believe that the barrier application only needs to be kept up for a week to 10 days. While that works for many boys, there are many it doesn't work for.

While it appears that the healing is complete, it is not. The mother discontinues the aftercare and goes a few days and voila' - Adhesions! As a matter of fact mothers who were dealing with this have told me the adhesions can start reforming as soon as 4 hours. I also know mothers who have fought adhesions until nearly 4 years old.
