Thank you!!!

Little Eli made his entrance into the world this morning.....he is 4 lbs. 13 oz. Mama and baby are doing well. He will have to spend at least a little time in the NICU. I still don't know their circ decision, but perhaps it's better that way. If they're going to cut him, I'd rather not know about it.

Is she breastfeeding/pumping? That's going to be very important for such a little peanut!

No, she's feeding him formula.

I'm having a major breakdown here. He's going home tomorrow and I STILL DON'T KNOW! I asked my other sister but she didn't know, either. I'm such an intactivist failure. I just have this feeling they're going to do it to him and it's making me CRY! (I just think she'd tell me if they weren't going to do it.)

Dh was trying to lighten the mood and said, "Hey! Why don't you cry for me? I'm circ'd!" So, I laughed and then cried some more.

And dh said, "They wouldn't circ a baby that small, would they?" I said, Yep, they do it all the time. God, how could you be sure not to take too much skin on such a small penis???!!!!!!!! (Of course any skin is too much, but you know what I mean.)

Well, they circed my 5 pound 35 week nephew within 4 days of his birth....I'm not sure how low the medical profession will go in its eagerness to mutilate baby boys.

For those of you following my story.......

Well, I found out why Eli was small...........my sister had a second placenta, that was taking up space and nourishment (the way I understand it---it was almost like her body was trying to support twins, without there actually being another baby.)

He was released from the hospital yesterday, but he's back in the hospital today (low body temperature, low blood sugar, and jaundice.) Please continue to pray for him.

A little bit of hopeful news..............I asked my mom if she knew whether or not they circ'd him, and she doesn't know, but she said that when my brothers asked my sister that question, my sister told them that she wasn't going to answer that question! (My brothers wanted her to circ. STUPID brothers.) So that makes me a little hopeful. (She still won't talk to me about it, either.) I'm hoping she's at least putting it off for six months or so. And my mom said that my sister was so protective of him in the hospital that she (my mom) doubts that my sister would have let them circ him.

Oh, and she's starting to nurse/pump now, too.

That's impressive. Let's hope that once lil' Eli was born, her mothering instincts kicked in and she is able to spare him from the cut.

At what age is a circ considered surgery? (among drs, not intactivists). Like at what age do they bring out the big guns for anesthesia when circ-ing an older kid?

When my first son was in the NICU and we were about to go home, the med student came up to me and asked if we were going to circ. I answered rather forcefully and scared her I think , but I asked why. She said that they could circ him before he left. Now, he was a full-term infant, but I know that the hospital policy for letting the lil' ones go home was 4 lbs, so I've always wondered if they would circ them when they are that small.

The NICU is an awful place for lil' ones, I couldn't imagine adding a circ to that too (where is the spit on the floor smilie?)

It's always considered surgery but it seems the general policy is that they will circumcise with or without local analgesia from the day of birth up to 6 months, will not perform a circumcision between 6 months and 1 year and after 1 year will use general anesthesia. An adult sometimes gets a choice of a local or general, in the doctor's office or in the hospital.

You're f-ing kidding me?! That's horrendous! Jeez, I thought the little guys would have to get to a fighting chance stage. This sucks!

Well, heaven forbid that the parents might have to take an intact baby home. They might get used to the intact penis and then the docs might lose out on their blood money.

My twin boys were in the "special care nursery" for 2 weeks. They were 6 weeks early and developed blood infections. Seeing them get poked and proded with needles everyday was heart breaking. Maybe she saw that little eli was scared and hurting from all those tests and couldn't add to it with a circ.

P.S. My boys had blood infections and they still seemed to ask me every day about a circ. I couldn't believe they would do that to sick babies especially since they both had to go through spinal taps!

I hope Eli is doing well and still intact.
