Could you help to rest my mind?

Hi everyone,
I am really greatfull to have come across all of the great info you all have to share so thank you for that.

I am worried about my 2 year old's penis. Yes, I did have him circumsized for what I thought were good medical and religous reasons, but I wish I would have had acess to better info back then cause now I wholeheartidly regret it.

He had complications with the skin readhearing to the tip and our dr. instructed us to peel it back and apply the vasaline, and we did not knowing it would retract on its own one day and it has readheared again and I am NOT touching it again.
BUT, I am concerned from reading the buried penis syndrome thread. I am wondering if his penis is normal or if there is a problem. The head is often times pulled way in and nothing pokes out. But there are times when just the head is visible. I am worried it is going to end up being burried. He has a small fat pad but nothing big, I guess I just cant tell if this is normal. SOme times you can only see a tiny bit but other times it shows. I have changed his diaper at night and seen he does get an erection that seems normal size but he acts like it is hurting like its pulling the skin really tight.
Do you know if it will hang out more once the skin has fully retracted? I am thinking that the skin that has readheared is pulling it back in, is that common?

Basically the RNP did nothing but make me worry his penis is just small, but I cant really trust her, she tried saying my youngest son's intact penis worries her cause its not retracted and it will get infected so she made me worry double time like a jerk.

Any info would be appreitated so much! TIA~

Mama. Your sons are so lucky to have some a wonderful mommy as you.

I'm sorry I have no advice, but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be by soon.

Well, don't worry about your youngest son certainly, he's far too young to retract anyway, his foreskin is supposed to be fixed to the glans, it's that way to protect it, and will separate in its own good time, just leave it alone and he'll be fine.

Intact care instructions from the AAP:

I would also, as you seem to be with someone who is woefully uninformed, print a few of those off and carry them with you in your diaper bag to give to anyone who thinks that he ought to be retracted, care giver, medic, anyone. I think your RNP needs some educating.

Lisa. I'd like to give you a hard and fast answer and a guarantee but I can't. There arent any absolute answers and there are no guarantees.

Most cases of post circumcision adhesions will resolve between 3 and 5 years old . . . but some won't and will require medical intervention.

Most cases of buried penis syndrome will self resolve at around 3 years old but as you have seen, some won't. The only cure I know of is skin graft surgery to replace some of the skin that was removed causing this problem. Unfortunately, the penile shaft skin and it's underlying structure is unique on the male body and the skin graft surgery leaves significant scars and a very obvious band of mismatched skin around the penis. This is a case where I'm not sure that the cure is not worse than the problem.

Only time will tell with these two complications. Unfortunately, the time they normally resolve is about the same time the statute of limitations runs out for you to file a lawsuit for redress. If this is something you feel you will need to address in the future, I would recommend contacting attorney David Llewellyn or Attorneys for the Rights of the Child. Both are specialists in circumcision related law and litigation. In most states, any legal action must be initiated in the courts before 3 years from the date of the injury. (circumcision) You probably have until your son's third birthday. You need to start any legal action several months before his birthday.

I had to comment on this. According to your siggy he is 2 months old. Of course it is not retracted yet! The ignorance/ mis-information prevalent in the medical profession in the US really worries me. My son is 3 and is only recently fully retractable. In an infant, the adhesion is actually a protective mechanism.

Thank you everyone for understanding and for the good links also.

Frank, Im not sure it is lawsuit material, but I just dont "know" so there lies the problem. I am planning to switch Drs again to see if I can get some more reliable care.
Something I am wondering, is that if the skin is adhearing itself up onto the tip, could that actually pull the head back? Cause this is what Im thinking, since from what I can tell he is normal size, just pulled in....? So if thats the case, when the skin naturally retracts, it will all just resolve itself?
I am just having a hard time with all this, I cant imagine him ever going through any self confidence problems or pain from this later on. I am hoping more that anything that this will just need a little more time and resolve itself.

And yes, my little guy is only 2 1/2 months old! The second she said that was a problem I felt like laughing and then crying and then I was pissed She basically told me my oldest was fine, and my youngest had the problem when in reality I believe it is the other way around but lets hope there is just no problem at all.

letter

Settingsail,

Regarding the nurses information about your youngest son, I think this is one of the those cases where the parent really should write a letter of complaint to the doctor's office and probably the medical building. Her bad advice is going to cause many problems for future parents.

I can speculate all day as to what could be but it would be just that, speculation. There is no way to know without an evaluation by a doctor who has expertise in this area and those are few and far in between.

You have several excellent resources you can call on in your geographic area. IRC, both Doctors Opposing Circumcision and Attorneys for the Rights of the Child are based in Washington state and both would be able to refer you to a doctor in your area with this specific background. Marilyn Milos, founder of NOCIRC is just down the coast and is very accessible by both phone and by e-mail. Finally, I understand that Dr. Paul Fleiss takes phone calls from mothers like you and also will correspond by e-mail to mothers to give information on cases like this one. I would recommend that you contact any or all of those resources. I have no doubt that they will be able to send you to competent help in evaluating your son's problem and recommending solutions.

That's the great thing about this movement. There are so many caring professionals and non-professionals involved that are more concerned with boys than money that none of these problems should ever go unaddressed. They provide their expertise and time just for the asking and no mother should be reticent about asking them for their help. They are more than happy to assist.

Great! I really am new getting into the research of this whole topic so I wasnt sure where to look to find a good CP. I am definatly on the lookout for a new one. Thank you very much for the information!

Seeing that this lady is misinformed I plan to make some kind of complaint with medical research to go along with it. I am just SO thankfull she did not retract it when I wasnt looking! The same day I saw her I came here and read that sticky post about Drs doing that and was feeling so thankfull.
