A baby boy died today

Today my co-workers 10 month old son died. He was having surgery to remove his mucous membrane. I am foggy on the details. Before the surgery she had said that the membrane was growing back, she also said it was a common problem among circ'd babies. This was to be a simple routine surgery. I was told they believe he died because of the anesthesia. I talked to her all week and she was terrified about her son having this surgery.

I am sick to my stomach with grief, for the baby and his mother. This woman was a sweet, happy and loving woman, as was her son. She was unquestioning of the doctors.
I feel the medical community misguided her by not swaying her from circ'ing when he was born. Now they have failed her again.

I can't even wrap my mind around this and how preventable and unnecessary it all seems.

Can anyone enlighten me about the problem her son was having? I am very curious about the reason he had to have the surgery in the first place.

Oh jeez. poor sweet baby.

It sounds like he was being recirc'd because of adhesions. :

Poor little guy.

Oh no.

That is absolutely horrible. I think she should sue the pants off the doctors who circed. This was a foreseeable and preventable death. If he'd never been circed in the first place, there would have been no need for a second surgery (if there even WAS a need for the second surgery...it's possible that it was done for no good reason at all.)

What a terrible tragedy for their whole family.

Unfortunately the death will never be attributed to circumcision. They'll attribute it to the anesthesia. He probably had adhesions where the cut line was growning back into the glans. If he didn't have that and only had readherance of the inner foreskin remnant to the glans then he did not need surgery. There is a study just on this point. Was the Mom warned of the risks before circ? If not, she may well have a very good case. I'll be happy to talk to her when she is able, if she would like.

How needlesly pointless.

I also suspect that he had adhesions and the procedure was to release the adhesions. This is the second baby I know of dieing in the past month and a half from circumcision, neither one of them neonates. I can not imagine the grief and guilt of these families.

You do need to have her contact David Llewellyn (Dave2GA) for legal representation.

Last night I went to bed thinking of the family. That was the first night without their baby boy. The emptiness and sadness must be beyond comprehension.

Dave2GA, thank you for the offer. I will extend it to the family.

Also, thank you all for clarifying the details. What you all described sounds similar to what she explained to me before the surgery. I only wish I had been more proactive in finding out before this happened. Perhaps I could have informed her to make a different decision.
I honestly never believed it would end so tragically.

Nobody ever does. Circumcision deaths are something that are carefully kept secret from public view. Nobody involved wants it known that they killed their baby. No doctor wants it known that he has killed a baby unnecessarily.

When babies die from circumcision, the parents rarely discuss it. In all of the years I've been involved in this issue, I've only seen one post from someone whose baby died. Yet, more than 200 boys die every year from complications of circumcision. It's normal for parents whose child has died to become activists and to contribute to charities that fund research and advocacy but I've never seen it with this issue. It's almost universal that they want to keep it secret and they often go to great lengths to keep it secret.

No doctor who has killed a baby takes it public and most continue to perform circumcisions. They will go to great lengths to keep it out of the media.

The hospitals instantly erect a veil of secrecy to keep anyone from knowing it happened at their facility.

The medical malpractice insurance companies don't want it to go to court because it will implicate both them and their customer to bad publicity.

Even the way the deaths are recorded in the permanent record supports this secrecy. This child's death will be recorded as a complication of anesthesia instead of a complication of circumcision. Ryleigh McWillis' death was by exsanguation (massive blood loss) in the record instead of by circumcision. The boy's death in October will be recorded as death because of organ transplant failure even though he wouldn't have needed that heart transplant if his circumcision hadn't damaged his heart.

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but in this case, it's clear and apparent that there is a conspiracy of secrecy. Nobody involved wants it known.

By the way, the doctor's medical malpractice insurer is going to be coming at them offering a large sum of money to settle the case. They should not accept any settlement offer without competent legal representation to guide them.
