OK I thought you were talking about a DOG (Husky) ...

It really depends on if your car has LATCH or not as to whether you are going to get a good install or not. I could never get a decent install in my Volvo Wagaon. It's an older model, the 850 GLT, but it is essentially the same car as the V70. The problem is the seat belt is too short to install using the long belt path and installing with the short belt path (this would make sense to you if you read the Husky manual!) is okay, but not great. Without tethering it is definitely not okay for me.

Even if you have LATCH, you need to install the seat using the seat belt once your child reaches 48 lbs as LATCH is only rated to 48 lbs. I have gone with the SafeGuard seat instead. It has as high, maybe even higher top harness slots than the Husky (now the Regent btw) and installs very easily with the seat belt. It is only rated to 65 lbs, but my DS is never going to need the 80 weight limit anyway.

I just noticed from your sig line your DC is 2. How much does he weigh and how tall is he? What seat is he in now? The Husky/Regent is often overkill for young/smaller toddlers. You might want to consider a different seat.

Hi Uccomama,
Ds is now 2 1/2 he is 37 " tall and wieghs 30 pounds. Tall and Thin. His shoulders are AT to strap hieght of his roundabout right now, I went and tried him in the Britax boulevard and alpha elite Apex at BRU . I really want to keep him in a harness as long as possible, and want to avoid buying another seat until we need a booster. A big problem I had with the boulevard was that he could reach down and lift the latch to loosen the straps, his roundabout has a button loosener, do you know he he might be able to do that with the Husky.
Back to the subject, I am 5'9 and DH is 6'2, ( we are the SHORTEST siblings in our family) I know DS will be tall and he is thin too, I can't imagine him in a seat belt booster any time soon, so that is why I am considering the 5 point harnesses up to 52'.
What do you think?

PS, I saw your post about the sfaeuard, and I think we can swallow $200 but $400 : That is just a bit too much for us although I bet it is wonderful.

The SafeGuard is turning into an awesome seat for us.

If your DS can loosen the harness on the Boulevard, he will probably be able to do that on a Husky or Regent, same harness adjuster. Really, escaping from a car seat is a behavioral issue, so you really need to address that because no car seat is escape proof. You do need to make sure the harness is snug on him with no slack but not pushing into his body and the chest clip should be level with his armpits. The other thing you can do is pin the cover over the harness adjuster with a diaper pin so your DS can't lift the flap. Another option you might want to consider the Decathlon which has the same push button harness adjuster as the Roundabout which might be more difficult for your DS to do.

I totally agree with you about extended harnessing, I honestly think the very best practice is not moving a child to a booster until they are at least five, six is better. Younger, lighter children in boosters have a much higher risk of head injuries in a crash according to research done by Volvo in Sweden. Here's a link to the research paper:

Safety for the Growing Child - Experiences from Swedish Accident Data.

I can totally understand why you would want a Husky/Regent given your DS size and genetics, it is such a bummer that Huskies and Volvos aren't a good combination. . Have you looked at the new Radian seat? I have a friend whose 53" 8 year old was still under the top slots, unfortunately the harness was too short to do up though. The Radian is just now hitting the stores, BuyBuyBaby has them and they should be at Target, BRU, Baby Depot and TRU soon.

I know it is very $$$, but in your case the SafeGuard would probably be the perfect seat.

Thank you so much Uccomama I will check out the radian, and see if I can find a safeguard in driving distance to look at, seeing he is not PAST the shoulder straps we have a few months to put some money away .
Thanks again for your advice
