A Warning About Parking Lots and Small Children - Page 2

Parking lots are one of my worst nightmares. Either me hitting a loose child or my son being hit. We always say parking lot to our son which means hold hands. He now at 3 says "parking lot" when we leave public buildings. He is very good at staying right at the car. But I worry about the day he gets it into his head to take off because it is funny. I also tend to park far away from the front of buildings and I avoid driving by the front of buildings. That is where the most action is and the most kids running around.

thats terrifying...

i still dont drive... but whenever anyone feels the need to try to teach me to drive they always take me to a very crowded parking lot
then theyre offended when i refuse...
so thats scary... along with all those jerks who feel like they own the parking lot appearantly there are also people learning to drive *shudder*

im soooooooooo lucky...my dd is obsessed with rules... i realized this as she stood there and patiently waited for us to both grab her little outstretched hands. i grabbed the hood of her jacket and tried to convince her that was okay but she wasnt buying it smark cookie
on a similar note we have drunken college students driving at insane speeds down our little residential street all the time. they set up a road block so the 'prettier' houses dont have to deal with it but now we have all of it and its just rediculous. and when school gets out we must be the only way to get out because its like a parking lot...

I'm with you. Why would they take you to drive in a crowded parking lot?

When I learned to drive, my instructors always took us to a quiet neighborhood that had wide streets, very little traffic, and lots of room to parallel park. Or an empty parking lot.

My ds is one of the "runners"..more than once he has bolted from a store/office door into the parking lot, and I have either been holding (not slinging) the baby or had her in the bucket still and it took a few seconds to catch up to him. At which point I grab him after yelling :"STOP JACK" and the instant I catch him he screams and proceds to cry for the next 10 minutes...

Its to the point where I hate taking him places.

Acctually IMO, the Drivers should be the ones excersising more caution, because they are the ones in control of a 2000 lb + machine.

Sure Pedestrians have to do their parts, but honestly there is only so much people on foot can do. there are those who have disabilities, arthritis, and whatnot, so it may seem like they are strolling, when in acctuallity they are walking as fast as they can without doubling over in pain. I for one have a crap knee. It acts up in the winter so I HAVE to walk slowly. Yeah I'm 27, not some elderly lady.

It's a %60/%40 thing and the majority IS on the person in control of the machine that can cause serious injury.
