For a non-sewer (who could be pressed to borrow a friend's sewing machine or at least needle and thread), what's the best way to turn flannel from an adult shirt into cloth wipes?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

The quickest way would be to serge them, if you have a friend with a serger borrow it!......But the very cheapest easiest way to get wipes (depending if you are using them for family cloth or to clean babe's bottom?) would be : for baby use wash cloths, most department stores sell them by the bundle. If you want cloth tp for yourself, cut up old tee-shirts they don't unravel in the wash, so just cut edges are fine. No sewing needed. Good luck!

Two questions: do frayed edges bother you and do you want one layer or two?
If you don't mind a bit of fraying, you could just cut the squares and use them. They will fray a bit but it will stop after a wash or two. You could also cut the squares and zig-zag the edges together for two layer wipes. Or cut squares, sew them together right sides facing and leave an opening. Turn the wipe inside out, tuck in the edges at the opening, and sew around the wipe again, closing the opening as you do so.
If you can borrow a serger, you can just layer the flannel and sew around the edges, the serger threads stop any fraying.
Good luck!
