If I trim my regular prefolds . . .

. . . and sewed the cut off portion as a doubler, would they be as absorbant as premium prefolds?

They'd be the same absorbancy as a regular prefold still (same amount of fabric), but they're a tad trimmer because you don't have the folds to contend with.

I was thinking that they may possibly be more effective since the extra material would be in the wet zone??? If you have a baby that floods with each pee then it would be better since the pee wouldn't shoot right through the fabric. If your baby just trickles a little along then it might not matter where the fabric is placed (as a doubler or just a regular prefold fold). Did I make any since???

Maybe for a girl it might make a difference... For a boy, I think it ends up being the same material there, even if I fold the middle "added" section in half in the wet zone (which I do). I always fold the front down for a boy in a non-trimmed prefold. I haven't diapered a girl though.

I can't tell you how many times I forget about the boy/girl difference when it comes to peeing. You would think I woud remember since I have two boys (16 and 18 yo now).
