My NB Diaper Collection. Suggestions?

With all of your AMAZING wisdom and help (mostly gleaned through lurking ), I have completed my Newborn sized diaper collection--using the VB AIO and VB SnugWrap patterns.

I have 20 NB fitteds

4 NB PUL AIOs

6 Snugwrap covers (three fleece, One wool and 2 PUL)

3 Pocket Diapers (using the VB AIO pattern and supp instructions)

1 wool cover knitted by my aunt

1 dozen purchased prefolds, plus a few I'll make with the hemp terry that I recently bought in abundance

I made some wipes, but I always ran my ds's bum under the bathroom tap, so I'm not too worried there.

I have never CDed before, and I am so afraid I'll give up and run to the drugstore for disposable diapers during the crazy first weeks--Please tell me whether I've missed something--I have some time to make new things, and OSDS has free shipping, so I can order more fabric if necessary with minimal guilt.

TIA

I think that looks good though I might go with a few more covers - maybe 12 total? Nathan wet like CRAZY during the first month and a half or so - I couldn't use AIOs on him (unless I wanted to change him every five seconds) and so I ended up using a lot of fitteds, doubled up prefolds and I went through more covers than I had, so I ended up sewing post partum!

Katie hasn't been such a heavy newborn pee-er but I'm still glad I have about a dozen covers to use with her. I have time to air them out in between uses but it still seems like she goes through a lot. I am able to use AIOs on her

That's my only suggestion, just a few more covers maybe, and make sure you have some that are just solid PUL (no cute outer print) they resist wicking better.

yep... I agree! Looking good!

36 diapers is a good number and you've got more than that so I think you have enough.

We had 4 covers to start and bought 2 more pretty quickly. I think 6 is the minimum number of covers you want and 8 or more is preferable. Wool takes a long time to dry so if you're going for wool covers, I'd double that number.

If you're still itching to sew I'd make more covers but really, I think you're in good shape

I agree that you may want a few more covers. Sometimes we would go through multiple covers a day because of blow out poop.

Good job mama!

I think that looks great! With all those fitteds, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I'd go for a few more inexpensive PUL covers (even dappi pull-ons) just in case. I like our fleece and wool covers, but with newborn poo sometimes it seeps through the diaper and 'wets' onto the cover and you'll need to wash/launder.

I'd also think ahead for when you want to size up to smalls and if/when you'll have time to work on those. My dd was just under seven pounds so we were okay w/ infant prefolds and nb/small fitteds for a while.

My toddler is a heavy wetter and I found it helpful to sew an extra layer of PUL to the sewn-in soaker pad of the VB AIO--shiny side towards the layers of the soaker pad and then obviously sewn so it is against the outer PUL. I also changed the shape of my sewn-in soaker for that pattern to more of a contoured shape in front and thus had enough "scrap" PUL from when I made my PUL cuts to get the extra cut to sew to the soaker pad.

Your newborn stash sounds awesome! I would work on the smalls next. My son went straight into smalls and was in mediums before I could sew more diapers. I did enjoy researching and buying wahm diapers, but I would have liked to sewn more of my own.

I think we might have to do a poll, how many mamas are ordering from OSDS this week?

Wow that looks great! If I have any more babies I'm going to make a load of nb's and smalls.....Well the mediums I've just started making wick/leak so maybe I'm not too good at making my own dipes? I'd also want to get a start on the mediums, my 6 month old has worn mediums since I started cd'ing a month or so ago and they are getting pretty small on him already....he is big though.
Do what you can now since sewing is alot easier without a baby in the house yet.

Thank you for all the great advice--you guys are awesome.

I am so glad I asked; I actually thought I might have made too many covers--shows how much I have to learn!
