Old wives vs modern technology

I know, I know, old wives tales when it comes to pregnancy are just that.

But I seem to be falling a lot to the girl side....u/s said boy. (I didn't look so carefully, though.)

I am broken out (just like with dd--maybe worse), carrying the same (although that means nothing, I know), I have cravings for sweets that is shameful, baby's heartrate (when measured) has never been below 150.

I know you must all be hysterical--there's a reason they're old wives tales, right? But the oddest thing of all...dh and I have been talking about boys names now for a solid month. NOTHING seems right to us. With dd a name (well, I loved it from long before I knew dh, but he loved it too) clicked immediately when we found out she was a girl.

I did have "boy" feelings when I first found out I was pg, but now I am just confused. Must be all the kicking.

What gives? I've heard of u/s "mistakes," of course, but the tech did not hedge at all.

What would you think???

PS It's not like we feel like we MUST come up with a name before birth...most of dd's 0-3 clothes are gender neutral, all baby accoutrements we have are grey or red or whatever, so it's not like we've got to know, and we'd never get personalized anything before the birth....It just feels weird now, KWIM?

That would drive me crazy if i found out but didnt really believe it. but i had three girls and every pregnancy was different so i dont really think you can tell gender just by the way the pregnancy is going. however i am having a boy this time and i brokeout like no other!!!

names are harder this time around for us too. not because of a gender change either. before we knew we couldnt agree on a boy or girl name. i think it gets harder and harder with each child. for us we always think how a name of the new baby will fit in with our other childrens names and so on. there are more factors that make it hard to find just the right name.

Oh, funny! Well, US have been wrong!

I'm with you on the name thing..... DH is SO CONVINCED that baby is a girl, he doesnt mind... but I've had boy vibes as well as girl vibes (which doenst help my mom's insistance that i am carying twins.... her latest "OMG, YOU ARE SOOO BIG" was entertaining).... but we have one girl name that we've been set on for more than a year! And NO boy names we like for longer than a week.

I watched a baby story type show one day about a woman who was expecting two twin boys, and lo and behold, BOTH turned out to be girls.

It's my understanding it is a lot more common for the u/s to "show" boy when in fact it's a girl than vice versa. Apparently the umbilical cord can peek between the legs and be viewed as a penis.

*grins* As for the name thing -- I've known the boy name for ages but it's a girl, from intuition and u/s both, and we've had no luck at all with girl names yet -- so I'm not sure how that plays.

I vote go with your gut, and buy mostly yellow.

Every old wives tale test with my daughter showed up boy...We even did the string test with different people who didn't know each other, did it on dh and on me and it came up boy-girl-boy.

In that pregnancy, Ihad 2 dreams in 1st trimester she was a girl.

We picked out our boys names because we just couldn't imagine she was girl.

obviously she was a girl.

I say if you had any dreams in 1st trimester--go with it, otherwise it could get influenced by you overthinking it so much (I started having boy dreams in 3rd trimester)

US probably pretty accurate, but there's always a chance.

just to screw with your head have you checked out the chinese gender predictor chart? google it and take a look--it was the only accurate test for dd.

Dh thinks I am insane...and in denial. (If I am going to have kids less than 2 years apart, darn it, I want to reuse the clothes! And get dd a sister )

No dreams one way or the other--my dreams during pg are all about ME, ME, ME being trapped in all kinds of weirdness (no kid stuff that I ever remember)--just stuff like coming home from an u/s 8 weeks with a pic, holding it up to dd's gestational pic from 12 weeks and saying (without a second thought), "Don't they look like brother and sister?" (instead of sisters, siblings, etc)

I have looked at the Chinese gender chart. For dd it was wrong, wrong, wrong. (Although it was correct for almost everyone in dh's immediate family--him, my BIL, MIL, FIL, etc.) At best it admits to being only 65% accurate! It's predicting girl, so naturally that is a strike against a girl in my mind.

Ohhh, interesting! I had two birth dreams in the first Tri, both girl. Nothing since! Although, I did dream about baby the other night.... but not about gender! Hmmm.

My "vibes" have been mixed all 2nd Tri. Interesting!

Last night's dream, heh heh

After reading this thread too intently yesterday I proceeded to have a dream that we had b/g twins. Which, amazingly, was less upsetting to me than having a singleton boy. (Yes, I AM insane.)

And in the dream dh told me, "See, I told you we needed a minivan!" (We just got one, despite my protests that it is too big and too much of a gas hog, considering that dh uses it for commuting.)

All my old wives tale predictions, chinese gender charts, etc, have said girl.
Both for ds1 and now ds2 in the belly. Guess there's always the chance that the u/s could be wrong...

Or my boys have a strong feminine side?

I've carried the same with all four. Low and wide (think watermelon). And I will have 2 of each. But my gut instinct has been right every time.
