So, which kind of thread for Recycled Wool Soakers?

I'm about to make my pile of felted sweaters into soakers, but I'm not sure which kind of thread is best.

Obviously, it shouldn't be absorbant or it could wick, right?

I'm thinking a nylon or a polyester thread, but I'm SURE someone here has BTDT, so...I'm all ears!

Honestly, I do not find that it makes any difference whatsoever. But the conventional wisdom is polyester or nylon or it will wick.

I used regular cotton thread on 2 pairs of recycled wool soakers, one pair wicks thru the seams and one pair doesnt. Go figure. I'll use poly thread from now on either way.

I've always used polyester thread because I don't want to have any trouble with what I've made after I put all that work into it.

So far they only leak if the diaper under them isn't absorbant enough

i use mercerized cotton thread. i think this means the cotton thread has been coated in polyester?
i use it b/c it's cheap, readily available, and doesn't seem to wick.
i also use polyester thread b/c i can use the serger spools to be more cost-effective and change the thread less often.

I thought merc cotton thread was polyester wrapped in cotton

Ha! You are both wrong, but Beth is more right. Mercerized is a finish for cotton threads, to make them smoother and take dye better. Mercerized cotton covered polyester thread has a poly core with mercerized cotton fibers wrapped around.
