Wow! Avacados really stain!

I had no idea. I gave my dd some avacado for the first time this weekend and it turned her bib a gross brown / green color. I thought it would just wash out, but no! It was like it "reacted" with the material or something. Really wierd.

Did anyone else know how bad this stuff stains?

Hmmm....

I've never had that happen before and my kids both ate (eat) a lot of them. I've also found that washing the bibs in the sink after they eat takes care of most of the problems and keeps them looking better longer.

That happened to us too. Even oxiclean couldnt touch those stains.

If anyone knows how to get those stains out i'd love to hear it. We dont eat avocado as much as i'd like to because the staining is a real pita. I cant let Boo have them unless he's undressed or already wearing stained clothes.

My dd loves avocado. If she gets some on her clothing, I clean as much off as possible with a napkin, then stain treat it with Shout stain remover. I've never had it stain, and we eat lots of avos and guacomole. It's best to stain treat it as soon after the event as possible, but I've left the stain for two or three days, treated it, let it sit for a day or so, and it still washed out just fine.

That's interesting. DD loves them and eats them often. I've never had them stain her clothing though.

My oldest dd loved avocados as a baby, we never had a problem getting her clothes cleaned, did nothing special except to wash in hot water and Tide/bleach.

Now bannas on the other hand I do/did have problems with staining

Now days for my laundry I use Arm and Hammer and will use oxegen bleach, works as well as Tide does for me.

We have really, really hard water here, so maybe the avacado IS reacting with something in the water? It's exactly like what Jennifer described in the OP. Do you have hard water too, Jennifer?

Dd loves avocados and eats them regularly - no staining at all for us. I think our water is "average.

We have really hard water with a very high iron content, and no problems with staining. I make a point to pretreat anything that gets a spot on it, so maybe that's why. I wash in All free and clear, oxyclean for whites/borax for colors, and no fab. soft. Hot for linens, warm for whites, cold for colors.
