LWI dying question

Thread Starter
I'd like to do some colorful playsilks for my nieces and nephew for their birthdays, and I have dharma dyes (and i've used them vat method) which i'm loving.

However, the few faqs on LWI dying i've found via google seem....uh...lacking in basic theory

And written more towards clothing and not tiny little playsilks.
Can anyone give me some REAL LIFE advice on how/ammts/etc?

I'd just like to do some 2 tone, scrunchy looking playsilks.

Check out this thread at Sewing Mamas. I think you will find your answers there.

I use Prochemical's measurements as a baseline guide. I generally only do playsilks so I adjust amount of water etc. down. I also don't use the other auxilairy chems like metaphos & chem flakes.

For example...
for one playsilk(35 x35) I will use measurements that will equal one cup of total water(dye water and the added soda ash solution). For these I use the smaller mason jars(2 cup size). I place the wetted silk in the jar, then pour over the color(s), seal the jar, shake and let sit. After I add the soda ash solution I will manipulate silk and/or shake the jar some more. Depending on how blended I want my color I let it sit or shake at intervals throughout the cure period, which for me is atleast 12 hours in a warm spot.

Just curious...what do you mean lacking in basic theory?
