Another name thing

We found out that we're having a girl, so the name stress is certainly relieved somewhat. Here's the thing: Before we ever had kids, Mike and I agreed on BooBah's name not necessarily for BooBah, but for a baby girl. We also came up with another name that we agreed on shortly before we got pregnant with BooBah, and decided that we would wait until we actually laid eyes on BooBah to decide which name she would get. She ended up with the first one because the first name was for Mike's grandmother, who passed away years ago, and BooBah bore a strong resemblance to her at birth (still does, really ). Her personality was also very reminiscent to Mike of his grandmother's (and mothers, and his-- again, it still is, what a love! ) so it was all good.

This time around, Mike is stuck on Girl Name #2. I'm okay with it, I don't dislike the name, but it has become less appealing to me as time went on, and I think that it's only fair to accord #3 the same courtesy that we accorded #2; to actually look at her before we make a final decision on her name. Mike doesn't even want to think about other girl names, though! Whaddaya think?

I think, as the mama, you have every right to bawl your eyes out when the baby is born and say "but she doesn't look like a Hazel!" (or whatever name it is.) and given that YOU carried this baby and YOU pushed this baby out...even if they pulled this baby out, YOU have a right to decide against a name your dh wants to use...this is your child too.

I would have a name in reserve, just in case the name he wants doesn't fit.

After my DS#2 was born we decided that he didn't look like the name we chose so we used his middle name as his first. I say a reserve name is always a good idea.

Fair's fair and backups are good. Tell the hubby your crunchy granola lady friends think you need at least two names going in just to be safe. *grins*

We were set on Gabriel for our first, but when he was born with jet black hair I freaked. I *knew* he was going to have red hair like my sisters, and he just didn't look like a Gabriel to me. So he is a Nathaniel.
