love candles!

I love this suggestion inspired from Birthing from Within:
Have a basket of candles at the door and a list to sign for guests -- as they leave the shower, they take a candle and sign their name and phone number on the list. Then when Mama goes into labor, the hostess (or someone else) calls everyone on the list and they light their candles so that they are sending Mama good thoughts, prayers, energy, etc., during labor. The only caveat is warn them their phone might ring at 3:00am hehe. |
I just wanted to add to this- we're going to be doing this for my cousin and for me! My cousin will be birthing at a hospital so we got her a flameless (battery run) candle (it still looks really cool) so that she can light it in labor too. When she looks at it while in labor, she'll know that all the people who love her are thinking of her.
To me its a nice way to still feel a connection to those friends and family who can't be with her at the birth.
Some family members also opted for flameless candles (not me, I like the real thing), so they can light their candle and go back to bed without worry

For my shower, my sister told me she got some sort of wax candle making set, so each person can make her own candle at the shower. They will all then somehow contribute to my candle too, so that my candle is made by those who love me. I will also light it in labor (birthing at home so flame is good!)
