How to tell if yarn is wool or acrylic?

My boss gave me a skein of yarn she'd bought to tie things or hang things up with but never used. But the label is gone. She told me it was wool but it sure feels like acrylic to me, and I think it's pretty shiny when I look at the fraying ends. Is there any sure test besides getting a bunch of it wet and smelling it or burning it?

Well, I was gonna suggest the *burning* technique.

Just snip off a tiny piece and hold it to the flame.
If it's acrylic it will melt.

Also wool yarn will pretty much disappear in bleach, if you have any around. I'm afraid of fire so I prefer not to do the burn test
