And in this segment, I ask about fleece.

Yes, it's me again, and I have yet another diaper making question. No one told me how addictive this would be!

Ok. Let's talk about fleece. I thought fleece was a hot material? I know it's breathable, but if you're putting a heavy weight fleece as a water proof barrier, it's that hot?

And, as a water proof barrier, will a medium weight suffice or does it have to be a heavy weight? I know it should be 200wt, but what if the sites you're looking at don't say a weight and just says medium weight?

And Merry Christmas Mamas!

I'm sorry, I haven't sewn much with fleece for diapers so I can't really answer your questions. I think the board has been slow over the holiday weekend and you'll probably get good answers today. Don't despair!

FWIW, I *think* that medium weight would be acceptable for daytime covers, but heavy weight is more reliable for longer periods of time. If what I've read has sunk in properly, you could always use two layers of medium weight fleece for a long term cover.

Regarding the heat factor, fleece is a breathable warm fabric. I don't have the experience to address how fleece would work in summer personally, but I know that lots of people use fleece covers and shorties in summer.

I use only one layer of medium cheap fleece and that works fine for several hours as long as my pocket is stuffed well. I don't think it is any hotter than PUL during the summer, but I would not put my ds in shorts or pants made of fleece, just a diaper cover!

The best water resistant cover I ever made was one layer of medium weight fleece and one layer of microfleece. That won't leak no matter what. Microfleece works great combined with fleece, and it is still pretty trim.

Amber, do you mean in a cover? B/c I was thinking of doing an AIO out of this -- like, medium wt fleece on the outside shell, then whatever soaker material, then micro to pull the moisture from the skin.
